~~
Mr. Flynn commented on the stench from his back yard that has made
his family sick to their stomachs as well as restricting them of use
of their pation areas. Several years ago Mr. Hovancsek had made a
study and had g~ec-ommended yard wells to catch the overflow but nothing
ever progressed out of that study. Also, he had observed on the last break
that iron bolts wer being used instead of .the recommended, noncorrosive
bolts as recommended by the Engineer. Two major developments are planned,
Hanover Woods and Aintree North, PhaseII, and questioned how this was
going to increase the c'i.umping of raw sewage in his back yard by the
C. R.S.D.
Mr. Dennis Rash; of 823 Beech: Hi°1~1..Road, .-~,~.ated:-he_had .bu°ilt' his._home
three years ago and observed a man wading through raw sewage. in the creek
with hip boots on, which is only 25 to 30 feet from. his house. He felt
it was the responsibility of the C.R.S.D. to set a goal of not allowing
even an ounce of pollution to enter our environment. .Raw sewage
flowed in the creek for 14 days while repairs were being made. to the
lines of a recent break.
Mr. Roy Jones, 902 Beechers Brook, stated he and two othbi~nei:ghbors,
jointly owned a lake and, on June 20th, raw sewage flowed into the lake
and killed the fish, the birds and ducks have left, and dead rats have
been found recently. The,"stench is unbearable and the raw sewage is
definitely a hazard to our health. .They have, three questions: (1) What
is the E.P.A. going to do about the situation? (2) What is the.County
going to do? (3) Who is going to repair the damage to the lake?
Several residents of Beech Hill area questioned what the E.P.A. is
going to do about the raw sewage in their yards and basements. Mrs.
Vienna, who has. just completed her home, stated she had no use of her
toilets -for five days. Why should they pay a sewage tax and not get
any serviced
Mrs. Fitzgerald expressed concern that the lines are not large enough to
take the laod and why more buicl?d~~ng is being allowed. .
Mayor Beebe agreed that large developments are being planned in the
Mayfield Heights area as well as the Village and we need answers.
Mr. Flynn stated that Mr. Vienna has built a home costing approximately
- $250,000.00-and unable to use his toilets. Tax monies are paid by every
resident to the County and getting nothing in ;return. They are to
maintain the bridges, we have none, aid with welfare, we have-no welfare
cases in the Village. Where is the money going?
Mr. Ralph Christman, E.O.R.S.De, stated that the seosrers were- constructed
in 1'958. At that time, bolts were used of a corrosive nature and have
stated to break.. The reason: for .the delay in :repair. on the break that
occurred around Memorial Day was the inability .to obtain cuplings that
had to be :flown in from Arkansas.. On top of that, .a mistake was made.
The parts were shipped to the wrong address. Supp~_ies are being stocked
to prevent future delays of this length. The pressure from the roads
being placed over the sewers is causing a lot o:c damage.. The~two most
recent breaks `were-caused by rocks and casings hitting the bell of the
pipes. The C.R.S.D, has been concerned and employed the Havens & Emerson
Company to study the problem. Their report should be completed by the
end of July and~a meeting is scheduled on August 6th.
