~_ ~ ~~ Mayor Beebe stated that the force now has the same amount of men ('13) as it did five years ago. Crime is up and the need for more police protec- tion in the Village still exists. The Auxiliary Police are limited to :,~ what they can do. He hoped the matter would no be dragged out especially since an eligibility list is available. He would urge the addition of one policeman now and another one later. Mr. Grogan stated that two new police were added this year - Appropriations had been passed for the year and don't think we should go over. the budget. Uniform costs were not~.in..the budget for the new dispatchers and. .things should be done in an orderly fashion. Council should not move on it this year and he didn't remember agreeing .to the addition of anymore. in the next years budget. Mr. Bennett clarified that it had been agreed by the Finance Committee that a recommendation be made to request Mr. Beatty to consider more men.in~the preparation of next years budget. He agreed with the Mayor that the eligibility list~be.used to avoid the expense of, additional testing:... Mr. Boger recommended that due to the overtime being spent that additional employees should be considered for both the Fire and Police Departments. Mr. Grogan questioned if all the overtime would then be eliminated. Mr. Boger stated that there would always be emergency situations. The Village. didn't add men to the Police Department, they replaced them. Mr. Busa mentioned that $12,000 has been spent this year. in overtime and another man could be paid for by the end of the year. Mr. Boger stated that the Fire:,~D:epartment is also contributing to the overtime figure. Mayor Beebe complimented Mr. Boger. on his effort in his, envolvement in the Departments. Mr. Bennett restated that the Finance Department needed Council's recommen- dation to chec]c for funds and would aslc that Mr.. Beatty supply them with his findings at the next caucus. We are only looking at perhaps two_:months pay out of this years budget if we act now. If monies are. available f.or two men than. we should go with two. Mr. Flynn agreed that we should move as quickly as possible. Mr. Busa reminded Council that the dispatching was no in the budget and we should move with caution.... -:::<.e - - - .. Bike Path - Mayor Beebe stated that cyclist are .s till using narrow, SOM~ Center Road to get to the Park and would like to discuss the matter in executive session. Mr. Busa called for a recess at 9:30 P.M. Meeting reconvened at 9:45 P.M:.
