~~~
~i
4
Mr. Bennett asked if the Racquet Club would still have time to
get a petition signed after the Third Reading of the Ordinance.
Yes, there would be time.
Mr. Busa questioned if Mr. Bennett's committee is working on the
wage adjustments?
Mr. Bennett stated they were but would hold the final decision until
the Mayor returned as he requested to be involved in these discussions.
Should have a report by the December meeting.
Ordinance 79-70, entitled: "AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING,THE MAYOR
AND FINANCE DIRECTOR TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH THE CLEVELAND ELEC-
T`~:~C ILLUMINATING COMPANY FOR STREET LIGHTING SERVICE." Introduced by
_~. Grogan
Mr. Grogan, seconded by Mr. Bennett,, made a motion to pass Ordinance
79-70.
Mr. Grogan stated that he had been~;a proponent-of this ordinance and
reminded Council that the Village has been without a contract since
January. Beta Drive is half serviced with-~hights. The alternative
is more expense to the Village and the monies are.•~t~ight now and he
urged Council to pass the ordinance. C.E.I. has permission to raise
their rates and he didn't feel amore decent deal would be offered.
Mr. Busa expressed his objection to the contract, which will not be
honored, anyway, and..the.-possible 28/ increase tacked on the 15/ increa
Mr. Feneli, on behalf of Mr. Avery, stated that in lieu of the fact that
the Village is the only municipality in the Hillcrest area that is still
fighting and the expense of purchasing C.E.I.'s equipment would be very
expensive, it might be adviseable to pass the ordinance. Cleveland is
still fighting and if they win and the rates would be lower than what
is stated in the Village's contract, we could cancel the contract.
Further discussion was held.
Mr. Flynn questioned if, as it states in the Charter, a charge might
be feasible since C.E.I. is a franchise.
Mr. Feneli stated that it might be possible but C.E.I. would probably
in return, charge the Village a higher rate.
Mr. Flynn requested that Mr. Feneli investigate the possiblity.
- Roll Call: AYES:.
