He said he had attended a meeting at the Mayor's request
on the suit filed against the Cleveland Water Department. It
is definitely a matter of mismanagement with no monies put
aside for maintenance let alone putting in any new ,systems.
The present system is on the verge of collapsing and if nothing
is done by 1990 or sooner service will be interupted to hun-
dreds of thousands of homes. The cost for cleaning the present
systems go from $237,000,000.00 to $400,000,000.00. .The City
of Cleveland feel they are not liable and this expense will be
burdened- to the municipalities, which means an expense of 25
to 30 million dollars for each surburb. Mr. Avery said he does
not feel the present suburban attorneys, who are devided in o-
pinions, are not giving us adequate representation. He would
like to take .the position of representing the Village in this
matter. He would also be representing the other two communi-
ties he works for and he feels the fees would be split three
ways .
There was a discussion with Council as a Whole making the mo-
tion to dismiss our present representatives, Mr. William Slivka,
and Robert Amsdell, and retaining Mr. Guerin Avery as Attorney
for the village in the suit against the Cleveland Water Dept.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Mr. Avery to notify the Judge and Mr. Amsdell.
Chief Hejcl - commented the new Fire Vehicle is to be delivered
in July.
Mr. Busa said Council is to take note of Mr. Avery's commenda-
tion to the Police Department.
Mr. Boger questioned the possibility of something being done
about the Pond at the corner of Eastgate and Thornapple. The
algae is terrible.
Mayor Beebe said the owner has refused to maintain it for differ-
ent reasons and the answer would be to put chemicals in the water.
