X42
Mr. Busa stated his basement was also flooded as well as homes in
the Aintree North area and asked Mr. Hovancsek7~to elaborate on
the situation: Mr. Hovancsek stated that he had a report from the
Cleveland Regional Sewer District on the amount of rain fall that
occurred in Mayfield Village between 11:30 and 12:30 Sunday evening.
1.36 inches fell on top of already saturated ground. This was the
major cause of the flooding in all areas of Mayfield Village. The
old sewer lines are leaking into the storm sewers which was the
reason for the raw sewage in the basements - the reports from the
pumping station was that everything worked prop erly the night of
the storm. He further explained to the residents that were flooded
that because their basements are lower than the sewer lines along
with the fact that at a certain point, two lines come together at
a 90° angle - one small and one large - the water is forced back
into their basements. Regarding the question of whom to contact,
the multiplicity of overlapping agencies regarding ownership and
maintenance of the lines tend to delay any action on the solving of
these problems. Mr. Amendola verified the leaking of the sewer
lines which are causing pressure on the storm sewers.
Mr. Flynn said he would be interested in seeing specific drawings
of these residents sewer lines and also if the automatic system at
the pumping station was working.
Mr. Hovancsek went on to say that he had recommended to Council
several years ago the installation of a force station to pump the
water into the Million Gallon Holding Tank.. This water would then
be treated and dispersed into the stream. The Cleveland Regional
Sewer .District was questioned recently about what they were doing
regarding our problems and he was informed that a report is being
complied on the improvement to or replacmeht of the Beech Hill Pump-
ing Station. It is to be completed byyfall. Nothing can be done,
or will be done until this report is finished.
Mr. Flynn requested a complete report from the Beech Hill Pumping
Station. Mr. Amendola commented he had the charts pulled and
everything had.worked properly. The Bonnieview Tank never reached
capacity.. There was further discussion with Mr. Hovancsek to write
to the Cleveland Regional Sewer District and request an up-to-date
progress report.
Mr. Busa stated that the Mayor was ill and had requested his letter
regarding the flooding be read. Mr. Amendola read the letter en-
titled "Mayfield Mop-up" dictated by the Mayor on Monday morning
after the storm. The mayor was one of the unfortunate victims who
who suffered basement flooding.
A resident questioned when the Wilson Mills Traffic signalization
was going to be complete. In one of the Mayor's papers he stated
it would be this summer.
Mr. Hovancsek said the Mayor had requested a couple of weeks ago
that he write the county in regard to the starting date. He was
to get hold of the contractor, Jes Howard, who said the foundations
for the bases for the lights will be started by November 1, 1978.
The contract is completion by the end. of February 1979.
A resident questioned the traffic problem of Progressive Insurance
Company employees making a left hand turn onto Wilson Mills.
