Hovancsek said he feels the Pathmaster sytem would be. <br />Mayor Carmen asked what the systems do differently. <br />Mr. Hovancsek thinks it would be best to let the company who bid the 170 system talk about it. <br />Lt. Jay said they are both a computer-controlled system. The difference between the 170 system <br />and the transit system is mostly in software. <br />The representative of the transit system said that N.E.M.A. lays standards which all traffic <br />controllers must meet. He explained the 170 system was developed in California; and the systems <br />are two totally different concepts. He showed a brochure with the picture of the 170 system <br />which would sit on the corner like the traffic boxes do now. <br />IVIr. Rinker asked if one device is more servicable than another. <br />The representative for the transit system explained the difference in the cabinets of the 170 and <br />Pathmaster systems. He said the 170 system uses P.C. boards, so in his opinion, the 170 system <br />is less durable than the Pathmaster system. <br />The reprenstarive from Traffic Control Products said the 170 system is a user-developed controller. <br />All eqipment installed in the 170 system rnust meet certain criteria; it is totally interchangeable. <br />Mayor Carmen asked if there would be any difference in the manner traffic proceeded with either <br />system. <br />A representarive in the audience said there may be some difference. The 170 system is only as <br />good as its software. He feels the program is flexible and expandable. <br />Discussion was held. <br />The representative from Traffic Control Products said that the way the specifications were written <br />the cabinets were not required to be changed. Three existing cabinets will remain if the N.E.M.A. <br />system is selected. However, they would be required to change all the cabinets because they have <br />a different system. <br />Mayor Carmen asked the cost differential for those three. <br />The representarive said they cost in the area of $5,200 each. <br />Mr. Rinker asked if the software had to be purchased separately or if it was included in the bid. <br />The representarive said it was included in the bid. <br />Mayor Carmen asked the benefit of a particular systern to Lt. Jay as the traffic supervisor.
