? 75.
Regular Council Meeting
10/21/91
Page Five
Mr. Rinker said it seems strange to have been given the word that they were going to wait until
after the election.
Mr. Pietrafese said it is strange.
Mayor Carmen said that he had made these allegarions to Mr. Riehl and that he did not deny any of
them.
Mr. Pietrafese asked how could he purchase the golf course without the support of Council? He
said that only you could pull something like that off.
Mr. Rinker said it behooves all of us to look at this.
Mr. Ramos said as to the actions taken by the Mayor he thinks it is up to Council if they want to
have the allegations investigated. They can ask the Law Director or an independent fact finder to do
so. He does not expect Council to make a decision today but would encourage Council to give the
matter some thought and to come to a consensus in the next few days.
Mrs. Mills asked if he was suggesting holding a Special Council Meering to discuss this.
Mr. Ramos said he thinks Council should give some thought to the allegations concerning Blase
Pietrafese and the statements made in reference to Mayor Carmen.
Mr. Rinker said we do not want to follow a wild goose chase.
Mr. Ferrante said he thinks the air has to be cleared.
Mr. Ramos asked if Council wished to take action today authorizing an investigation by an
independent person or by the Law Department.
Mr. Basile said he thinks it should be done as soon as possible.
Mr. Ramos said regarding the allegations made here tonight, it should be determined whether or
not there has been revelation of legal executive matters. The action taken by the Mayor should also
be looked at.
Mr. Flynn said he would like to see the matters handled in house if possible.
Mr. Rinker said we should not leave this hanging; it is worth an inquiry. Mr. Rinker asked
Council to give this matter some thought and commit these thoughts to paper and turn them into the
Law Director. We will await word from Mr. Ramos. He would like to deal with this matter in
some fashion in a reasonable time.
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT RINKER
Mr. Rinker had no comment.
