?OZ(3'a
Special Council Meeting \ 11/21/91
Page Two Mayor Carmen said he understands the abatement is tied into the facility being built.
Mr. Ramos said that is correct pursuant to the agreement being signed with them authorizing the
project. He cited the other terms of the agreement.
Mayor Carmen said one of the major reasons we are doing this is that we hope that this will remain
forever and all time Progressive's home. He said we lrnow if the highly-paid executives are here it
will benefit us. We know it is their intent now, and hope it remains their intent in the future.
Mrs. Mills said people aze concerned about the traffic.
Mr. Chokel said they will run three shifts. The dominent shift is first shirt with about 70-80% of
the employees, second shift would utilize 15-20% of the employees, and about 5-10% employees
would work third shift.
W. Louis Bloomfield Prouessive Insurance Comnany, said when they reconstructed the
driveway they had studies done. They had the road constructed assuming they may expand at
some point The road was engineered in theory to accept this ldnd of employee load. They will
keep studying it; they do not want a traffic problem for their people either. They are going by what
their traffic engineer said if they have to do something in the future, they will be glad to do it.
Mr. Chokel explained that not all employees will start work at the same time. At their Landerhaven
facility, they have starting times of 7 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 8 a.m., and 8:30 a.m. Mayor Carmen asked if they will stagger the starting and stopping times at the Mayfield Village
facility,
Mr. Chokel said yes.
Mrs. Mills said that people who had called her said they had read in the newspaper that that
roadway is something Mayfield Village services. That is a misnomer, Mayfield Vnllage is not
servicing it. Mrs. Mills said she hopes the media will take note of this.
Mayor Carmen concurred.
Mr. Rinker asked if there were any other comments from Council.
There were no comments; Mr. Rinker said he is satisfied as well.
1VIr. Rinker offered the floor to Dr. Abbott, Superintendent; Eric Brown, President; and Bob
Baker; Treasurer, Mayfield City Schools (who were in the audience.) Mr. Rinker said he
understands the concerns of the School Board as the Village looks at the abatemenL He asked if
the gentlemen had any quesrions for the Village or Progressive.
Dr. Abbott said they appreciate the opportunity to be here. They spent a productive two hours in
talking with Progressive and Mr. Rinker and Mr. Pietrafese who were at the meeting. Dr. Abbott
said that Mr. Rinker explained the future of our Village and what is encumbent upon them. Dr.
Abbott said they understand that by Progressive making this their corporate headquarters, it
becomes a windfall to all in that they could be anywhere. They appreciate the fact that they are here
