208
Special Council Meeting
11/21/91
Page Four
Mr. Baker, Treasurer, Mayf'ield City Schools, said they would take in $156,429 annually based on the estimate from the County Auditor. The money that would be foregone (abated) is $312,849.
Thirty-three percent of the $630,000 estimated income tax would be $210,000.
Mr. Rinker asked if the amount that would be pooled pursuant to SB 170 would be $156,429.
Dr. Abbott said that is what would happen if the bill passes.
Discussion was held about SB 170.
Dr. Abbott said, in terms of trying to plan and look at the future, that every little piece counts.
Mr. Rinker said the Village's concern is to set prioriries and see where a realistic line for sharing
could be. He is aware of communiries where there is 100% abatement and they do not share
anything. He said they want to have time to look around a little bit before making a decision.
Progressive needs to break ground in the spring and must follow a specific timetable in order to do
so. Mr. Rinker said Council is sensitive to the needs of the school board and wants to deal with
the issue fairly, but because of the time constraints placed on Progressive, they need to act on those
issues now. Mr. Rinker said they have agreed in principal to revenue-sharing with the school
board but, as to what the percentage would be, they cannot answer that now. He asked if Council
had any thoughts on that point.
Mrs. Mills said they need more time to study this issue.
Mr. Ferrante said they agreed in principle to share but srill need to decide if it would be dollars;
they may share services in place of dollars. They have not made a decision yet.
Mr. Basile said he agrees with Mr. Ferrante.
Mr. Pietrafese said he is looking into putting together a Community Development Committee and
would respond to a Board member being on the committee in the future.
Dr. Abbott said he is only aware of about $23,000 in sharing proposed. If that is it, he is
concerned about that.
Mr. Rinker said Council is committed to look at this seriously.
Mayor Cannen said he thinks he and Council need additional time to make that decision.
Dr. Abbott asked if they could give him a time frame. He must leave here and go to another
Council and deal with another situation. He would like to know if they are talking about a month,
two weeks, or what.
Mayor Carmen said he does not think he wants to press it now. He wants to give us time to look
and think. He would guess that before he leaves here it would be a done deal, but they need some
time to do that.
Mr. Rinker said the Village has tended to be creative and progressive. Their commitment is to do
this in a senseful way.
