12
Regular-Council Meeting _
1/17/94
Page Four
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS
Mr. Amendola said a satisfactory job has been done on the roads by our people. He
said if the snow continues to fall, we may have to remove the snow and push it further
back on the properties of commercial residents to have enough space.
Mr. Hovancsek said the contractor for the Beech Hill Hilltop Interceptor H-2 contract
has not furnished all data he has requested. He has nothing in writing. Mr. Hovancsek
explained he contracted the sub-contractor whose contract it is to do that work. He
talked to the superintendent. Their intent was to give us a new road (full width). He
asked for that in writing. They had promised to get it to him; however, he did not
receive it today. He said KM&M was seeking change-orders: We are just waiting for
Willard Construction to get that in writing to us so we can do everything at one time.
Mr. Diemert reported that the Associated Estates' application for a North Chagrin Office
Building has been withdrawn as of January 10. They feel there were _delays and we took
too long. They advised they will go elsewhere, although this was their first choice. Mr.
Diemert said he thought things had been moving quickly. They disagreed and are
relocating.
Chief Mohr thanked Gus for use of the Service Department to thaw their equipment. It
was appreciated. He also expressedthanks to Jim for digging them out.
Mayor Rinker asked Chief Mohr if he could give a report on the recent fire in Gates
Mills.
Chief Mohr reported that they seem to feel it was caused by a problem in the basement.
The reports he has seen on television are accurate. We came close to having fatalities.
He said there is no question a water source would have made a difference. It is his
opinion that by the time they arrived (which was in 5 minutes) the building was already
lost. He could see water coming off the roof. If there is a fire in the attic, the water
would be melting off.
Mr. Brett reported Council has the final appropriation ordinance for 1993 (on the
agenda.) He said the only changes are for new funds and for the roundabout on the
Quint. Otherwise, it is 2% under budget for last year. He said he is is open for
questions.
