71
Regular Council Meeting
3/21/94
Page Nine
Diane Pearn said she does not see that there was a comprehensive study done through
the schools as far as how that whole thing is going to be handled. Why is it so up in the
air?
(D Lt. Jay said that nothing is up in the air.
CY)
M Mrs. Pearn said that she heard that they sent something home through the Center
Q School saying that we possibly would have to transport our kids to a different location.
z
2 Lt. Jay said that is something you would have to work out with the school board.
Mrs. Pearn said our bus drivers already have a double schedule; they can't afford to
have an extra 20 minutes on their route. They need to go back to the parochial schools.
I feel very strongly, as Basil Russo said, that we were not informed in the community.
We are a high paying section of Mayfield Village down there, why weren't we
informed-- whether you're right or not and this is being handled proper way--why
weren't we informed?
Mr. Hovancsek arrived at this time (8:30 p.m.)
Mayor Rinker said I wanted to send out (and it will be going out this week) a map and a
letter to explain it. The problem was that I did not want to send out bad information.
We have tried to see if there would be a better alternative to what has been presented by
this traffic engineer. The very first response you had, we have people on Council,
almost a majority of Council who live in that area, and their first response was, you've
got to be kidding, there is no way anyone is going to go for this. We have tried,
legitimately, to come up with a different plan. The fact of the matter is that this,
unfortunately, with all things being considered, and I differ Mr. Russo, that we have
just sort of done this by the seat of the pants and that we haven't looked at it. We have
explored it, we have consulted with the people that we feel know what they are talking
about. I have talked to both heads of my safety departments and we are trying to
coordinate this in a way that is going to be the most manageable and as safe as possible.
The problem is, yes, you add time to your trip. But, on balance with all the priorities,
this is the most sensible way to do this.
Mr. Russo said it is not an appropriate resolution. He still does not understand the
rationale as to why we can't allow traffic to proceed southbound instead of northbound.
It would satisfy 90% of the concerns of the people in the community because we
normally are traveling southbound.
