104
Special Council Meeting
4/10/94
Page Two
time for emergency vehicles serving our community, and number two: it saves us from
an unreasonable amount of inconvenience. Mr. Russo said we are only talking about a
7% increase in the cost of the project. Had this project been properly bid in the first
place, had it been bid with Highland Road opened west, that money would have been
factored into the original bid. Mr. Russo said we did not come here tonight looking for
a confrontation with anybody; we came here because we are concerned about our
community, our family, and our government. We would like nothing more than to hear
the Mayor get up this evening and tell us that he may have made a few mistakes in the
way he handled this up to now, and he is prepared to acknowledge the fact that he
made a few mistakes, but indeed, what he is going to do is listen to the concerns of the
residents of the community and represent our viewpoint and do what we are asking
you to do--to support this measure and to encourage Council to support this measure.
If you don't stand up on behalf of the residents of the community, not only will you not
have our respect, but we will sincerely believe that you are not looking out after our
best interest and you are not reflecting our interests at city hall. We hope you support
us this evening; we hope Council supports us this evening. Please correct the problem
this evening.
Bob Ehrhardt. 565 Timberline Trail, said starting tomorrow SOM will be closed
northbound from Hickory Hill to Beta Drive; Highland Road and Wildwood Trail will
be closed completely at that intersection. In addition to being a major inconvenience, a
51 /2 mile trip out of our way, safety we cannot tolerate. A house on the corner of
Wildwood Trail, in the event of emergency, it is an additional mile drive; so you are
looking at another minute and a half response time. Highland is worse. A rescue
vehicle would have to drive down Wilson Mills past 271 to Alpha Drive, down Alpha
Drive and across Highland to get to the emergency situation. That is possibly a mile
and a half farther; so you could be looking at an additional5 minutes in rush hour
traffic. I, frankly, do not feel this is acceptable. We were told that in the event that that
happened, Highland Heights would be notified. I pay my taxes to Mayfield Village. If I
ca119-1-1, I assume 9-1-1 goes to the Mayfield Village City Hall. Mayfield Village City
Hall has to call Highland Heights; if they, are on another run, are they going to take care
of the people in Mayfield Village--I doubt it--they are going to take care of the people in
Highland Heights, just like we would do the same thing in Mayfield Village. The plan
calls for every bit of traffic going out of Aintree North to exit through either Metro,
Zorn, or Hickory. So everybody going in and out of Aintree North is going to be going
down your street. These problems could all be eliminated with a very feasible alternate
plan which we went over last week. Wildwood would be kept open westbourid;;,.;;;
Highland would be open westbound, SOM open to northbound traffic only. This
would eliminate the problem of an emergency vehicle getting down Wildwood. We
would have total accessibility to Highland Road and also the back streets of Aintree
North. Mr. Ehrhardt said the reason we were given that this plan was no good was
