105
Special Council Meeting _
4/10/94 `
Page Three
that it was an additional $37,000. I feel if we went about this the right way, we could
cut that price substantially. Also, the other thing was that the construction time would
increase. He said up to 30 days; with good weather he could cut it down possibly to
two weeks. So, that would eliminate that problem. Tonight, we are left to decide which
of these two plans we should vote on; which one we should approve. Mr. Ehrhardt
(o quoted from Mayor Rinker's letter of March 23,1994, where safety was mentioned. He
(O said the reason you gave for this plan not working were the temporary bridges and
? ramps that would be involved going over Wildwood to Highland Road. Mr. Ehrhardt
said Mr. Calabrese said it would be almost like a road, which he could maintain almost
z- on an hourly basis to make sure there would be no interruption of traffic going either
? way. Mr. Ehrhardt read the last paragraph of Mayor Rinker's letter. He said plan two is
a far more safer plan than plan number one in an emergency situation and I think that
dictates what we should do.
Cindy Wald Malloy, 468 Blueberrv Circle, said Mr. Russo does not speak for me when
he says "we." Mrs. Wald-Malloy said she was rather upset about the letter which she
received in her mailbox yesterday which implied that someone had elected Mr. IZusso to
speak for the Highland/S.O.M. area. I am inconvenienced because I work at the corner
of Wilson Mills and Miner Road. It normally takes me three minutes to get to work; it
now takes me 15-20 minutes. I am willing to live with the inconvenience if it can be
done in 60 days at the cost Council said it will cost. A 7% increase to me is not
acceptable for having the convenience. The letter from Mr. Russo yesterday talked very
little about safety. It talked about the inconvenience. Mrs. Wald-Malloy said my
opinion is I would like Council to keep the plan they had and save the Village some
money.
Vetus Syracuse. 6798 Bramblewood, said I would like to know from the Mayor and all
of you there--what price do you put on saving one life? My wife has called 9-1-1 four
times in the last 8 months.

Mayor Rinker said that is an easy one to answer; you cannot put a price on a life.
Nikki McPolin, 6827 Bramblewood Lane, said while I understand the economics of
making decisions, and we certainly can't put a price on the lives; I think of the lives of
my children, I think of the fact that I was rushed in an ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital
whereafter I had back surgery. I think about the pain that I was in and I think about the
fact that it was not life-threatening, but it was certainly awful. I think about the reason I
chose to live in Mayfield Village. I chose to life in Mayfield Village because it is a sense
of community; it is sense where we all live together. It is supposed to be a safe place to
live. I think the police do a fabulous job. I think the services that we have are
