171
Regular Council Meeting
6/20/94
Page Eleven
Mr. Diemert said they would need a variance to back illuminate the letters period. The
motion would read: A motion to grant a variance to Section 1185.06 allowing
illumination from behind on the proposed sign. No suspension is needed.
CO Mayor Rinker requested that they go through all four variances so everyone can
M identify what is on the table. Then, they could be considered one at a time. Mayor
Q Rinker said the whole idea of setting up a model was to get response from our citizens,
which we have gotten.
z -
? Mr. Diemert said the second variance would be for height. The code requires 24" .
maximum.
Mr. Chokel said they are proposing 41".
Mr. Diemert stated the third variance would be the location on the rooftop. The code
prohibits anything being above the roof line. They are proposing the sign be located on
the rooftop.
A resident in the audience asked why there was not a drawing or something for them to
look at.
Mr. Diemert said the last variance is regarding the size of the sign; 1185.15 permits
signs no larger than 100 square feet in area. 'I'his sign is 105 square feet.
Mr. Chokel said that variance is no longer required; they are at 100 square feet.
Mr. Diemert said the code requires white letters, so that is part of the illumination
proposal. Their proposal is that it would be back illuminated to make it a softer blue
color rather than the white.
Mrs. Cinco asked Mr. Stephens to present the information he had.
Mr. Stephens named several people who are opposed to the sign--he would say totally.
Mr. Diemert said the illumination one had an additional request to extend it beyond 7
p.m.--to midnight. Mr. Diemert said they should consider the illumination one in two
phases. He said first would be a motion to grant a variance for illumination from the
rear. If it passes, there would need to be a motion to grant the variance to allow it to go
from 7 p.m. to midnighf.
