j
169
Regular Council Meeting
6/20/94
Page Nine
Mrs. Cinco asked if they would be consultecl as to the height of sound barrier they
would like to see--with input from the residents.
Mr. Hovancsek said that is correct. There is going to be some initial design; after that
O.D.O.T. has promised all the municipalities involved that they will hold a meeting.
C? They are in the process of modifying the policy they discussed with us previously.
(Y) When they meet with us, they will have a newer policy to discuss.
< Mayor Rinker said to recapitulate, sound barriers will be installed.
?
? Mr. Hovancsek said, in Mayfield Village, the only sound barriers to be installed will be
installed on the east side of the freeway south of Wilsori Mills to the extent that the
houses are in the Aintree area. 'Y'he target date for construction of the barrier will be
sometime in 1995. Probably near the.end of 1995. -
Discussion was held about the material.
Mr. Hovancsek said originally they were to bid three to four different types and if you
wished to take any of the types you would have to pay the difference between the
lowest price and the type that you wish. T'hey are trying to modify that to give the
municipality a little better selection without having it cost quite so much money.
Mayor Rinker said it is our intention to address this at a time when we can do it with
input from our community to select material as much as we have a choice to do it and
we can design this thing with some landscaping as well to add to it. O.D.O.T. will not
provide the landscaping. That will be our bill to foot.
A resident in the audience said he owns a company called Sound Reduction and he
wants to be in on it. He said in California, the sound wall goes up first. He thinks
maybe someone could tell the State.
1VIr. Fixler said the Village actually delayed moving on this when they made their
presentation because we insisted on going ahead with sound barriers first. We actually
did not take a vote, then they came back and said it will not work that way--they will do
it with or without Mayfield Village's approval. At that point in time, they assured us
that we would have an ample sound barrier and would have ample time to get
everyone involved on it. For the record, we actually delayed voting on it because we
were concerned about that.
