214
Special Council Meeting
7/25/94
Page Two
in Cleveland working in the entertainment industry, in public relations and promotion.
He is currently the Transportation Director and Warehouse Foreman for Maple Heights
School System. This is his fourth year there. He oversees just about all the goods and
services that come out of the warehouse that service all the buildings in the school
system. Most of his time is spent in transportation. They transport about 1,200 students
daily. He oversees the maintenance and repair of 25 vehicles and works with about 40
employees. Transporting students every day is a critical job. He talks to parents
regularly, he serves the School Board. He talks to all the administrators, principals,
teachers and so forth in the school system as well as city officials. He has quite a
reputation of caring about his job and putting in the hours; whatever it takes. They
have no problems with him accepting or making phone calls; he can conduct whatever;
business he needs to once his duties there are taken care of.
Mr. Ferrante asked if Mr. Buckholtz has involved himself in anything pertaining to
Council activities before this.

Mr. Buckholtz said not perse. He moved to Mayfield Village about seven years ago and
started a family at that time. Mr. Buckholtz said he has some pretty traditional values.
It wasn't until about a year and a half ago that he started to attend Council Meetings
and Worton Park Homeowner's Association Meeting.
Mr. Basile asked Mr. Buckholtz's feeling about the school levy.
Mr. Buckholtz said he has a little bit of a split feeling. His daughter will be starting
kindergarten; he is concerned about the school issues but does not think the answer is
burdening all the taxpayers with more money than they can imagine.
Mrs. Cinco asked Mr. Buckholtz if he is involved in any union affairs over there.
Mr. Buckholtz said they have a union but it is fairly new. He has done a lot to get
people working together. If he hears two ideas that seemingly oppose eachother, his
first thought is how can we take the best of this idea and the best of that idea and come
out with a third idea that satisfies everybody. He makes things work together.
Mr. Ferrante said if Mr. Buckholtz is chosen, he hopes he will have an open mind, make
his own decisions and not have other people make them for him. He realizes he will be
a new man, but he will also hear the arguments of the whole floor to make your own
decisions.
