23/
Regular Council Meeting
9/19/94
Page Five
Mr. Hovancsek said it is not the Army Corps of Engineers' problem. It is a public health
problem. (After the Board of Health), the next level is the Ohio EPA. The bulk of the
problem is not in Mayfield Village, but the Village is receiving the result of the problem.
Nir. Buckholtz said he wants to let everyone lcnow it is not just a problem with this
(D M group--it runs through l?us ward (Ward 4) and affects many homes there. He knows Mr.
M ?Iovancselc and Mayor Rinker have been involved. It seems to be a slow-moving
Q situation. The County Engineer is working on the problem. Before people talk of
drudging the dirt, he thinks the point source has to be remedied. Mr. Buckholtz said if
z it takes coordinating a group of citizens to work with himself, he is willing to do so. He
? thinks they must stop the contamination from coming in. He does not know if it can be
done the other way around.
Ntayor Rinker said if a person in the neighborhood would be a group captain (someone
people would call if they had any specific complaints), then that person would call Bill
Buckholtz or Village Hall.
A member of the audience said they do not think a trough will work and asked what
can be done about the sewer gas. Mr. Buckholtz came out to the house and asked if the
Fire Department could flush it out. He said he would make a phone call and nothing
ever happened.
Chief Mohr said unfortunately there is no way they can get down there and they would
have to run the hoses across the street.
Mr. Samac saicl he contacted Chief Forte of Mayfield Heights who promised he would
do that. He said his men went out and flushed gallons of water down the sewer.
Mrs. Graham said they ran the hydrant into the street.
A resident in the audience asked what can be done about the sewer gas.
Mayor Rinker said he expects the County will keep going after source points.
Mr. BuckYzoltz said he will coordinate with the residents and help get everyone
together. They will contact the agencies.
Mayor Rinker agreed that was a good idea.
