7. This truck meets the new federal axle weight requirements. Within
the next year there is strong indication that current federal axle
weight exemptions will run out mandating all new fire apparatus to
have the proper axle weight to gross vehicle weight ratios.
8. We would be able to carry equipment that we currently have to
return to the station to get. This equipment is mainly salvage gear
that we do not have room to transport.
9. A new ladder truck will allow us to carry ground ladders tall enough
to reach the second floor of some of the newer homes in Mayfield.
At this time we can not reach the back side, second floor windows,
of some of the houses in the Hanover subdivision.
In closing I am coming to you for your continued support. I wish to
continue with this project because we need a replacement for 613. By
combining the functions of two trucks into one, we will save money in the
long run. Financial rates are currently extremely low and prospective
manufacturers have incentive options that are favorable to municipal
finances. Now is the time to save on buying a fire truck that is needed.
If you feel it is appropriate, the Mayor can approach Progressive Insurance
for a contribution to help defray the cost of this truck.
I am requesting the approval to prepare specifications due to the fact it
will take approximately 6 weeks to prepare materials for bidding. Also,
my goal is to bid this truck prior to March 1,1993 so we may take
advantage of dealer incentives prior to price increases.
Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions or would like
to see slides of the proposed apparatus I would be happy to show them at
the safety committee meeting Monday night December 7, 1992.
Sincerely,
David R. Mohr
Mayfield Fire Department
.?
