4A?L°MAYFIELD VILLAGE
6621 Wilson Mills IZoad Mayfield Village, Ohio 44143
ADMINISTRATION
? (216) 461-2210
BLASE PIETRAFESE
Mayor
January 4,1993
Mayor Pietrafese and Council Members;
I wish to bring to your attention a development regarding the proposed ladder truck for
the fire department. It has been brought to our attention by Mr. Tom Dauchy of
Emergency One Inc. that a demonsirator ladder fruck has just been built and has
components close to what we would specify if we were to go to bid. This truck is
available and could potentially, save Mayfield Village $50,000 -$60,000 versus going
out to bid for a similar truck.
I feel Emergency One is the preferred manufacturer for the following reasons:
1. Weight Distribution and Braking requirements:
The Emergency One ladder truck meets Federal Department of Transportation
axle weight requirements -- without strings attached. We met with the Pierce
Manufacturing representative, Mr. Jack Patrone. Mr. Patrone stated we would
have to list all equipment carried on the truck before Pierce Manufacturing
engineering could design a ladder truck with the proper axle weight
considerations and braking capacity. This would severely limit the equipment
that we could carry. Future technology could give the fire service new
equipment we may not be able to carry on this truck without risk of the truck
being overweight. The Emergency One (E-One) allows for all equipment we
would want to carry now and in the future, without preconditions.
2. Water Tank size:
The Pierce truck would only allow us to carry 400 gallons of water. Again,
weight distribution is a concern. The E-One would allow us to carry 500 gallons
of water. The same is true for the L. T. I. Inc. ladder truck. A truck that has a
very similar design to that of the Pierce.
