(216) 461-2210 <br />BLASE PIETRAFESE <br />Mayor <br />January 4,1993 <br />Mayor Pietrafese and Council Members; <br />I wish to bring to your attention a development regarding the proposed ladder truck for <br />the fire department. It has been brought to our attention by Mr. Tom Dauchy of <br />Emergency One Inc. that a demonsirator ladder fruck has just been built and has <br />components close to what we would specify if we were to go to bid. This truck is <br />available and could potentially, save Mayfield Village $50,000 -$60,000 versus going <br />out to bid for a similar truck. <br />I feel Emergency One is the preferred manufacturer for the following reasons: <br />1. Weight Distribution and Braking requirements: <br />The Emergency One ladder truck meets Federal Department of Transportation <br />axle weight requirements -- without strings attached. We met with the Pierce <br />Manufacturing representative, Mr. Jack Patrone. Mr. Patrone stated we would <br />have to list all equipment carried on the truck before Pierce Manufacturing <br />engineering could design a ladder truck with the proper axle weight <br />considerations and braking capacity. This would severely limit the equipment <br />that we could carry. Future technology could give the fire service new <br />equipment we may not be able to carry on this truck without risk of the truck <br />being overweight. The Emergency One (E-One) allows for all equipment we <br />would want to carry now and in the future, without preconditions. <br />2. Water Tank size: <br />The Pierce truck would only allow us to carry 400 gallons of water. Again, <br />weight distribution is a concern. The E-One would allow us to carry 500 gallons <br />of water. The same is true for the L. T. I. Inc. ladder truck. A truck that has a <br />very similar design to that of the Pierce.
