Regular Council Meeting
3/15/93
Page 5
Mr. Basile said they did not do anything with the hillside ordinance at this meeting.
Planning and Zoning made a motion to reject the proposal presented by Mr. Friedman
from MAY-SOM Development for 476 detached single-family residence units in the
northwest area of the Village.
Recreation - Mrs. Leppla said before she gives her report, Mr. Fixler, the previous
Council representative, has asked to say a few things.
Mr. Fixler read Chapter 143.02 of the Charter. Mr. Fixler said it has been a pleasure and
an honor to be that representative over the last year. Section A says, "...all members
shall be appointed to a two-year term." Mr. Fixler also quoted Section C regarding
removal. Mr. Fixler said he has recently been removed which he feels is in violation of
Ordinance No. 87-44. However, to maintain a harmonious relationship with Recreation
and this body, Mr. Fixler said he feels it necessary, effective immediately, that he resign
from the Board of Recreation. Jeanne Leppla will be taking over and he wishes her
nothing but good luck and much success in her duties.
Mrs. Leppla said the last meeting of the Recreation Board was on February 17. They are
beginning to work on the craft show. Registration for softball, summer playground and
swim lessons will be held in the Community Room on March 24 at 7 p.m. They talked
about hiring of a Director for the Summer Camp, decided on the salary and the person.
Mrs. Leppla said she does not know if it has been finalized so will hold off on
mentioning the name. They are working hard and are looking to improve the recreation
programs of the Village. They are looking for seniors who might be interested in
becoming members of the Recreation Board. Mrs. Leppla said if anyone knows of any
seniors who might be interested, please let her, Mayor Rinker, or Mrs. Cinco know.
Mayor Rinker said he appreciates Mr. Fixler bringing this to everyone's attention. This
is the firsf that anyone has addressed this fact. His understanding is the custom has
been, as with every other council representative's appointment to various and
commissions, that it is done on an annual basis. He cannot remember, personally, when
the last time was when the appointment to the Recreation Board was not done on an
annual basis. It is a good point and something they can look into.
Recreation Silver Anniversarv Committee - Mrs. Mikula said the committee would like
to thank all the employees that have helped them so far. She cited the names of the
consultants that will help them: judy Flynn, Cathy Schulz, Ralph Tarsitano, Joan
Cotton, Jim Shelby, and Dave Shields. Mrs. Mikula said these are all people who have
played a very important role in the beginning of Recreation and gave them a lot of
input.
