Martha Brock, Worton Park - said what I have to say now probably does not mean
anything because it is apparent the suggested plan is pretty well set but...
Mayor Rinker, Mrs. Cinco and several other people said not at all.
Mrs. Brock said regarding the traffic light situation--the statement was made that you
can't put the signals too dose together. She would like to know how it was possible for
that light from Aintree Park right next to Beta Drive--how was it possible that it was
placed there? The two lights are closer than close.
Mayor Rinker said he thinks what prompted this was Mayor Carmen's insistence to Lt.
Jay that we go ahead with this. All recommendations from engineers and traffic experts
were that the light would create a problem, however, the residents in the Aintree area
were very insistent.
The resident asked if there are 80 residents in the Aintree Section as compared to
Worton Park.
Mayor Rinker said easily. He said that is what makes it such a hard problem, because
for one group to be satisfied--it creates a problem for another group.
Discussion was held.
Mayor Rinker said our traffic people who recommended against the light at Raleigh
have also said consistently that we cannot put the light in. The other problem we have
is that we are dealing with Highland Heights as being part of the controlled
intersection.
Greg Simpson - Worton Park - said he believes they should discuss this traffic light
issue in more detail because a lot of the people would like to consider the safety of the
residents over the traffic problem on Wilson Mills. He said there is no discussion in this
plan about the fact that east of the 271 overpass there is still only one lane turning north
on 271. In your presentation you (Mr. Chokel) said the majority of your cars are coming
down south of 271 and getting off so we are making all the provisions to get into
Progressive very quickly; now we have provisions for them to get out of the Progressive
drive, but once they get out there they have no where to go because there is only one
turn lane getting them back on the freeway. He thinks that is going to be another issue.
Mr. Chokel said one other issue to discuss with Mayor Swanson is Alpha Park. Our
people can go straight through onto Alpha Park and many have said they would. The
