Regular Council Meeting
8/16/93
Page Sixteen
problem is when you get to Alpha Park, you hit Highland Road and there is no right-
turn lane. We have talked to Mayor Swanson about getting Highland Heights to put in
a right-turn lane so people can go right onto Highland to S.O.M. and the S.O.M. /
giighland intersection is already scheduled for improvement this fall.
Dan Reiber said he is a resident both formerlv of Worton Park and of Aintree - said
despite comments that the light would be dangerous or could not be done--the light is
an improvement. He suggested the improvement not be limited to Raleigh Drive. The
other thing he would like to suggest is some alternatives. Everybody is talking about
cramming all the cars into the one enfrance you have already designated. Mr. Reiber
showed Council and the audience on the map his idea to cross Wilson Mills and go up
the creekbed.
Mr. Chokel said his understanding is this is the right-of-way for the O.D.O.T. right
there. All the people we have talked to at O.D.O.T. said anything that you do on this
side of the line--3 to 5 years. We could propose that, but I think that you will be
impatient during the 3-5 years.
Mr. Reiber said if you have the impossible situation of getting out onto Wilson Mills,
why don't you just cut off Worton Park on Wilson Mills and go out the back door.
Mrs. Cinco said she suggested that Mrs. Leppla set up a home owner's meeting in the
very near future. Along with yourself, select two to three people for this committee;
along with myself, Steve. We will get information to you. Mrs. Cinco said please don't
hesitate to contact any of us because we are right there with you and we are listening.
Rita Mikula - asked why Progressive is coming with this now? Why didn't they take
care of this as a matter of good planning before they started their construction. They
had to know there was going to be increased cars. Progressive is constantly coming to
the well. They want abatement, they want this, they want that. We have a$400,000
indebtedness for a fire engine we needed because they had to go up higher. How much
revenue do they give us per year? Why wasn't all this presented at the original
presentation of all the construction plans. You knew there were going to be cars, I
think, at that time.
Mayor Rinker said that question was asked a number of times. As Mr. Chokel said
tonight, they said they had it under control.
Mrs. Mikula said the people that live on Joyce and Wilson Mills Road have every right
to be able to get in and out of our property the same as anyone going in and out of
Progressive. I think it is time that Council starts thinking of the people and not
worrying about Progressive.
