Regular Council Meeting • ' ' <br />5/20/96 <br />Page 3 <br />Mr. Cappello said the traffic engineer tried to design the intersection based on the <br />stop conditions. O.D.O.T. feels for safety purposes, they would like the intersection <br />signalized. <br />After a brief discussion, Mr. Cappello explained the light would be flashing red all <br />the time until there is an emergency. Then, it will go to yellow for a few seconds <br />and then to solid red to stop the people on Sandalwood and S.O.M. and a green light <br />for the fire station. <br />Council President Fixler asked if Chief Stevens concurs with O.D.O.T. <br />Chief Stevens said he had no recommendation. <br />Council President Fixler asked what happens if we don't want to follow their <br />request. <br />Mr. Cappello said we could write back that we would rather use the stop sign but we <br />run the risk that they might not approve it. He could talk to Mr. Bammerlin of <br />O.D.O.T. <br />A brief discussion was held. <br />Mayor Rinker said unless it is a fully sequenced signal, he is of the impression that <br />people would see the flashing red and get used to it after a while. <br />Mr. Hovancsek said Villages are required to get permits from the State for traffic <br />signalization. <br />Council President Fixler suggested we make one more request to O.D.O.T. telling <br />them we would like to do it this way for these reasons. <br />Chief Stevens explained the signal would be labeled fire signal so there would be no <br />right turn on red. <br />Chief Mohr asked if the 25 mph sign can be moved. It is in the sight line of exiting <br />the new fire station. <br />? <br />LJi
