Regular Council Meeting '
5/20/96
Page 9
It was the consensus of Council that they come up with a written concrete proposal
before the June 3rd Caucus.
Mayor Rinker suggested they have legal counsel prepare a document they would
propose to be a contract that they would want to live with. It is critical that Council
have a understanding of the details. Our Law Director will review it and provide
some advice to us.
Mr. Carter said he does not think that time frame will be a problem.
Fire Station Landscap ing - Chief Mohr turned the floor over to Lt. Neyman since he
has researched this.
Lt. Neyman said he has talked to more people since the last meeting and has gotten
some concrete prices. (The information was presented to Council in their letter
from Chief Mohr.) Another contractor has come up with some ideas that make a lot
more sense such as stone walls in front of the bed. Because of the steep grade, he
was very concerned with mulch and dirt washing out of the bed. That is probably
one of the more pricey items in this proposal. His ideas include highlighting the
flagpole by putting in a nice bed in front of it with stepping stones to it. It will crea
kind of a three dimensional effect. He wants to do something with the pit out fro
--with grasses up front and river rock on the bottom of that. He would like to
highlight both ends of the project with nice Maple trees. (We can change to any
type
of tree we want without any real cost difference.)
Mayor Rinker asked if he has spoken to any Garden Club members.
te
nt-
Lt. Neyman said he spoke with Patsy Mills and she seems to like the concept so far.
There is a lot of area to cover. There are some things on the side of the building to
hide--air-conditioning units, an outdoor vent and gas meter. Lt. Neyman said he
likes the sandstone that is hand-etched to be rounder in front. Frate Landscaping
was highly recommended and he likes the work he is doing around here--he is
doing work one house past Hanover. Their proposal for $9,625 includes making the
bed, preparing the soil, planting the bushes, putting in the stone--basically all the
labor involved. ,
Mayor Rinker asked the amount budgeted originally.
Chief Mohr said it was $25,000. It was taken out because they didn't want it to be
part of the engineering and architectural pieces of the pie.
