Regular Council Meeting
September 16, 1996
7
Mr. Diemert said he heard from the lawyers from AT&T and they have followed up on the Council
and Mayor suggested at the last meeting. They are meeting with Cellular One and have asked that we
hold off on signing the contract until they talk to them.
Council President Fixler asked Miss Heath to put this on [a future agenda] accordingly.
Worton Park - Regrading of ditches & minor storm sewer repair
Mr. Cappello said we received three bids last Friday. Bond Enterprises was the low bid at
$31,027.50.
Council President Fixler asked when they would start if Council were to approve such a project.
Mr. Cappello said when the Worton Park sewer project is finished-neax the end of September or
early October. Work would be done on one side of the street to clean the ditches to jet out the
culverts to improve drainage. None of this was caused by the construction-any portions (small
amounts) caused from the connections are being taken care of by Marra. This will affect
approximately half the homes, about 40 homes.
Mayor Rinker said Marra has been very well received by the residents in the neighborhood. They
were the second highest bidder on this. Marra had approached us asking if they might be able to
include this work and it was our collective agreement to go out to competitive bid. There was a
pretty significant difference [in bid amounts.]
Council President Fiyder asked what if we didn't do the work this year.
Mr. Cappello said he and Mr. Metzung walked the area. Since the road is torn up on one side this
year, doing the work on the other side now might make sense. It is not something that definitely has
to be done this year.
Mr. Metzung said at this point while the work is being done on the other side, it ma.kes sense to go in
and finish the job and get the⢠people on the other side of the street up to 100% and complete the area.
Mayor Rinker said this is consistent with the way we approached Beech Hill. When things are a
mess, we try to clean it up and take advantage of doing as much, constructively, as we can.
Mr. Metzung said we would certainly want to do this before we begin any road programs in the area.
Work was scheduled to be done this year and he asked they hold offuntil all the heavy equipment is
out of there.
Mr. Buckholtz said people have been pretty patient there and Marra has been good but he thinks it
would be pushing it to repair the road and go back in with more machinery to chop up the road again.
