Regular Council Meeting
October 21, 1996
Page b
1Vlr. Klunzinger said he will prepare something. He said the picture shows fully mature trees, but it
won't be too far down the road.
Dr. Parker asked if it is functioning now-or when will it be functioning?
IVIr. Klunzinger said it can be functioning in a passive fashion within aboug two weeks. Everything
is installed now except the final instrumentation and controls. The two facnlities at Euclid and Crreen
and Richmond and Ridgebury are passively taking air right now. You can go over there and literally
stand on top of the bed and there is not a hint of an odor.
Dr. Parker said a resident has expressed to him that in walking by that facility in the past week or
two that there was odor there.
Mr. Klunzinger said there will still be a little odor escaping from the County system. They are still
pumping to the street. They have sealed everything they can think of to seal, but it will still sneak
out on occasion. 'Those odors from the discharge of the pumping station will be drawn to the
biofilter instead of escaping through the sewer system.
1VIr. Kritzer said he went out there one day and they did not have their cover over the pipe so some
of the gases got into the air.
Mr. Klunzinger said having heard that if anyone notices any odor-they should call them right
away. There is a little wisp from the County Pumping Station but if there is more than that, it could
be something like Marc just described.
Dr. Parker asked if they won't even have a wisp of an odor after the biofilter is on line.
Mr. Klunzinger said that is correct.
Mrs. Hoenigman asked if they have landscaped other people's properties.
1VIr. Rlunzinger said they landscaped the church because the church did nof want to seIl them the
property, they just gave them an easement.
Mr. Marquardt asked how long this type of biofilter has been in use.
1VIr. Rlunz%nger said biof lters as a concept have been in use for hundreds of years. The oldest of the
modern biofilters is 12 years old. That one has held up without any replacements needed.

Mr. Marquardt asked why replacements would be needed and how bacteria is controlled.
