Regular Council Meeting
419-99
Page 7
Dr. Parker, seconded by Mr. Buckholtz, made a motion to authorize an expenditure in the
amount of$28,200 for the purchase of pool equipment.
Mr. Fixler said Mr. Thomas brought a brochure with the chairs and tables to the meeting. He
said he would need $14,100. This is our first season at the pool. Two-thirds of the Committee
thought it should be twice this amount. They felt that 50 chairs would not be enough. The idea
would be to cap #he amount at $28,200 until he comes up with a survey of pools in the area.
Mr. Buckholtz said they wanted to give him the latitude to be able to buy more.
Dr. Parker said some of us were concerned that it would not sufficiently meet our needs. We
didn't want to have a beautiful pool and have no chairs. We wanted to see what other
communities and our pool architect recommend as to the number of chairs needed for a pool of
our size.
Mr. Fixler said that since this is our first experience with a pool, one of the things we need to pay
attention to is buying what we need because we can always get more later on. Let's see how it
goes--if we need more chairs, then we'll buy more chairs. Also, what if the chairs don't hold up.
We don't open until July 1s`--late in the season. He sees no reason to spend $20,000 on chairs.
Mrs. Cinco said she can't see shortchanging ourselves for a pool ofthat size.
Mr. Thomas said chairs will be used in the deck area and grass.
Dr. Parker expressed concern.that if chairs were ordered in July, it would be 5-6 weeks before
we would receive them.
Mr. Thomas said he would like to do an educational survey.
Mr. Brett said there is a price break at 100 but we aren't sure how much.
Mr. Metzung said the grass area around the pool won't be ready by July 3id; it will be roped off.-
Council President Marquardt asked if Mr. Thomas would have a better idea of the number of
chairs we should order by the Caucus.
Mr. Thomas said yes.
Mr. Busa said he_ does not think we are prepared to vote tonight; we must stop the monkey
business somewhere. $14,000 vs. $28,000 is a big difference.
Ken Mulbach, said there will be a lot of things to buy--waste cans, furniture, etc. With the
crunchtime we are experiencing, he thinks Mr. Thomas is looking for an authorization not to
exceed a certain amount to purchase those accessories needed to open the pool.
