Regular Council Meeting
5-17-99
Page 16
relationship with someone and know they can step right in, that sounds like a very good set up.
We are investing in Mr. Thomas a certain amount of discretion.
Mr. Thomas said they had gone through other vendors in Cleveland Heights and he connected to
Joan. The timing is his concern. He has basically committed to Joan for this two-month period.
Dr. Parker asked if there was a contract and asked how they can approve a contract they haven't
seen.
Mayor Rinker asked Council to be aware of the many tasks which Mr. Thomas is dealing. He
has dealt with her and has had great success with Mrs. Horowitz. We did not anticipate this
would be a problem. We want to make as good an impression as possible.
Mr. Buckholtz asked if Council could have time to look at the contract and Mr. Thomas would
have time to talk to John Iafelice, this could be discussed at Caucus or a special meeting.
Council President Marquardt asked Mr. Thomas to have something in more detail for the
Caucus--we could probably have a special meeting. He asked if there would be a conflict
between Pepsi and Coke with the concessions.
Mr. Thomas said the concessionaire deals with Coke at this time. ?
Dr. Parker asked if she can work with Pepsi.
Mr. Thomas said that is a good question; he doesnot know. He has been trying to do a lot in a
short period of time. We don't have to get the two scoreboards now. The main thing is he needs
to take care of Joan. He recommends the Village hire her.
Mayor Rinker said the vending contract is a separate entity. There may be an incentive to go
with Coke to get a better deals.
Mr. Thomas said he will contact Mr. Iafelice tomorrow.
Mrs. Mills asked if a special meeting could be held on the 24`"--if it couldn't wait until the June
7'' Caucus.
Council President 1Vlarquardt said we need input and asked Mr. Thomas to get back to Council.
If we need to hold a special meeting, we will. If we can wait until June 7t'', we will.
A motion to authorize the purchase of concession equflpment for Parkview Pool from Store
Starters in the amount of $8,695.09. (Note: Items will also be purchased from Sysco in the
amount of $2,388.)
