Regular Council Meeting
March 20, 1995
Page Two
Shirle,,y Flu?an, 6800 Hickory Hill Drive, said she wears a lot of hats around here._
She also wears another hat for the school; she is the secretary to band boosters. One
of the purposes of this organization is to give out a$500 scholarship to a graduating
senior who is studying in the field of music with the goal of making it their life's
work. Because of the shortage of funds, should the levy fail and fail again in
November, all music would be cut from the curriculum. The whole object of a
school curriculum is to allow students to discover and develop their talents so they
can become productive citizens that have employable skills. They can't do this if the
school curriculum is narrowed and they can't find their talents. Mayfield has a wide
curriculum and serves a wide variety of students. This levy will continue that
curriculum. Mrs. Flugan distributed information on the levy. She asked Council to
take a special look at Item 9 which details the cuts to be made should the levy fail.
Mrs. Flugan is asking for Council's support. She realizes that their responsibility is
to look out for the best interest of all citizens in the Village. She asked them to
continue a good school system.
Pennv Oviatt, 981 Worton Park Drive, said our Federal representatives often have to
decide if they are going to vote to represent us or if they are going to vote for what
they know is best for us. She hopes that all of Council realizes what is best for us in
terms of schools within our community. She does not want to add this to the list of
things that make it difficult for house values and selling houses in Mayfield Village.
She hopes everyone supports the school levy because it is good for all of us.
Regular Council Meeting - Februar,y 20, 1995 - Mr. Basile, seconded by Mr. Ferrante,
made a motion to approve the minutes.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Minutes Approved
:+CQIVIMEN"?'Sj FRt?M MAYOR'?INKER.?
Mayor Rinker had no comment.
Mr. Fixler said if any of you were present at the meeting held in reference to the
