Introduced by Mayor Rinker
and Council as a Whole.
Mr. Ferrante, seconded by Mr. Busa, made a motion to suspend the rules of
Council requiring an ordinance to be read on three separate occasions.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Rules Suspended
Mr. Busa, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to enact Ordinance No. 95-33.
Mr. Basile asked about the percentage used for Gus Amendola and the Police
Chief.
Mr. Fixler said it appears, from his notes, that 6% will put the Police Chief, Fire
Chief and other Department Heads in question at approximately $400 below Mr.
Amendola, the Service Director's position.
Mr. Basile said this is 8% and 4%.
Mr. Fixler explained the 8% this year was to realign the categories which we are
doing pursuant to the approval of the police contract. The four percent
maintains that level. This will not be a situation where we will be realigning
again. This is a one-time situation because we are going ahead with the
realignment of Department Heads. That is the reason why it is 8% this year. It
will continue to be the 4% or whatever rate Mayfield Village gives employees
down the road, it will remain at that level. Four percent will keep it consistent
for 1996.
Mr. Flynn said traditionally the Service Director was ahead of the department
heads because he had the combo job of Service Director and administrative
executive. There wasn't a Mayor here and that is why he got a little bit more. As
he continued his career, he was the Service Director combo Building
Commissioner. He deserved the salary he was getting because of the fantastic
number of hours he was puting in for one thing in the job he was
accomplishing. There was never any concern before, or it was not noted before
by Department Heads, that he was a little bit above them.
