Special Council IVIeeting
3-9-98
Page 10
Council President Fixier said as far as the pool is concerned, are we going #o work something out
within a 24-month period, or will it stay the way it is? He requested a straw poll now.
Dr. Parker said he does not want to see any changes. He does not want to have to, re-negotiate in
24 months.
Mayor Rinker said what if we sa.q nothing after 24 months=it just ends.
Mr. Busa urged Councit and the Mayor to walk the wetlands. He does not like the 5-mile radius
or any of it. He #hinks we should leave it alone at best.
Mrs. Cinco asked if by re-negotiating in 24 monYhs, tha.t means to put a 5-mile radius in and re-
negotiate. She does not think we need that. The usage wilt grow with the number of employees.
Mayor Rinker sa.id the language is unless or untii [24 months].
Council President Fixler wondered why they would limit to 24 months.
Mayor Rinker clarified the 24 months from the opening of the facility.
Mrs. einco said she would like to see their response if we-don't touch it.
Mr. Buckholtz asked if there is clarity or definition as to how they will use the pool.
Mayor Rinker read fram the agreement that the Village sha.ll determine the swimming facilities'
hours of operation and may impose usage, membership and other fees for all users but wiil not
cha.rge Progressive employees for guest passes for more tha.n Village residents for use of the
facility. ,
Mr. Buckholtz said he would like to see what happens without changing anything but wants to
point out if we did a 24-month deal, his interest would be putting a high price tag on that.
Mayar Rinlcer said we are raising issues of competition of space and whether we could envision
exercising some kind of right of control. Maybe they could be given a limited windovv of time.
We don't know the anticipated use. Another for instance, would be to use that as a benchmark to
prorate the overall population in some way.
Mr. $uckholtz suggested finding a number (like 2,000) and maybe #hat would be the nwnber
they would be allovved to ha.ve at the pool at any one time.
Mayor Rinker said we will find those numbers at a later point. If we could write in here now a
mechanism that_ says a plaXer to be named later.
