Regular Council Meeting
7-6-98
Page 5
Council President Fixler thinks we have gone to great lengths to try to get the opinions of many
Villagers as to what they would like to see up there. He would like to further that and have us, or
Village volunteers, talk to our constituents to see exactly what their feelings aze. He thinks this
would be the best and most accurate way to accomplish this so this is why he is not in favor of going
forward with a professional survey.
Mrs. Cinco said she understands but the best statistics given aze those done by telephone surveys.
They use a very statistical formula to write up the questions. Knowing who to call, how many from
each azea and what ages--they aze generally pretty accurate.
Mr. Busa said this administration has spent many thousands of dollazs on surveys and studies that
has never changed anything. He is not in favor of anymore studies.
Mr. Buckholtz said he does not think the study precludes Council from getting involved. We don't
need another project where people aze coming out afterwazd saying why did we build this or that...
The presentations we have had from the Steering Committee from this particulaz group indicates
they are a very hands-on group who will do what we want.
Dr. Parker said it breaks out to $5 per household. It seems like a small number to him. He would be
interested in knowing what the cost would be.
Council President Fixler said it is not just a money issue for him. His feaz is that the survey will not
be accurate.
Dr. Parker said he is not sure whether we will approve this or not but if it meant spending a little
more to get a higher concentration of respondents, that may be of more value. On the other hand, if
100 will not do it for us, maybe it's not worth it.
Mr. Mazquazdt said the 100 is based on 1,500 homes and they said they would be working very hazd
to get 100 responses on a telephone survey.
Council President Fixler said that is his point--if any one of us calls, we will get a response. He
thinks this is such an important issue--let's just finish the job and get it done. He thinks the outside
survey will not give us the accurate read we are looking for.
Mrs. Cinco said the numbers work. She is comfortable with it.
Dr. Parker said he assumes they will develop a questionnaire in a similar format to the Recreation
Survey and there will be meetings to develop questions.
Roll Call: AYES: Mr. Buckholtz, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Mazquazdt, Mrs. Mills, and Dr. Pazker
NAYS: Mr. Busa and Mr. Fixler
Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
