Regular Council Meeting
7-6-98
Page 6
A motion to authorize an expenditure in an amount of $2,500 to the Mayfield Township
Historical Society
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to authorize an expenditure in an amount of
$2,500 to the Mayfield Township Historical Society
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
Sound Barriers
Council President Fixler said the Engineer gave an update earlier (during Caucus.)
Change Order for Interior Road -Northwest Quadrant
Council President Fixler asked Mr. Brett to confirm the amount.
Mr. Brett said it will be $236,515.60.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to authorize an expenditure in the amount of
$236,515.60 for a change order for the interior road in the Northwest Quadrant.
Mr. Brett said Mike Burgess is here. Some members of Council have copies of the breakdown of the
change-orders and some do not. He explained the additional expenditures included in the change-
order: asbestos abatement on one of the Lambright properties (about $25,000), concrete (including
5" conduit for service to the Progressive site) about $78,000--that will be charged back to
Progressive when we determine the assessment.) $58,650 for temporary pavement. The Finance
Committee questioned the need for temporary pavement--why we need it and where it will be.
Mr. Burgess said they discussed the development of the project at some of their progress meetings.
Because they were not extending further south into the area where the wetlands and the
environmental part might be at, it more or less dead-ended there. We were concerned as you came
in off of SOM and there is a 4-way stop as you enter Progressive and we extended the road further
south and it terminated there. We were concerned as to the ability for emergency vehicles to turn
around there. We were, basically, going to have two lanes with a median and once you got down
here you would have to turn around and back all the way up. By not putting in the median and
pitting in temporary asphalt, you could then come in and make a turn; the Village considered using
that for parking on a temporary basis. It provided a ]pt more options versus a road that terminated
wig guardrail at the end with no where to turn around. The thought was to go ahead and add the
asphalt so it becomes a bit more useful and the center rgadway would be extended through.
Mr. Brett said that increasing the 2" caliber trees to 4" c0~iber trees on 115 of 169 trees would
improve the li~~lihood that they would survive as we'vq found in areas such as Worton Park.
