Regular Council Meeting
9/28/98
Page 6
with that and wanted to go more than that. Council President Fixler said we ended up negotiating, if
Council is amenable, that instead of the system costing over time (over 5 years would have been
$246,000 to lease) we -now can buy the system up front for $192,000. Council President Fixler
believes this is an excellent value and something worthwhile. We are into a more traditional kind of
look as opposed to a more contemporary look. Since the decision-makers attended that meeting
tonight, we wanted to come to Council with this. Since we are working on a narrow time line, we
need Council's approval tonight to say whether or not they are interested enough to go forward with
it. Then Phil and U.R.S. Greiner can coordinate the- exact style. He showed a picture of typical-
fixtures from C.E.I. and Night Vision to give Council a rough idea of the style. They are
maintenance favorable. Lyndhurst and Solon use them. He asked for Council's approval to go
forward--not with the memo copied to Couneil because it shows a much higher price--we are talking
about $192,000.
Mrs. Cinco said she didn't receive the memo.
Mr. Brett said he had them ready to go out Friday. [Council didn't receive them.]
Council President Fixler said he thought they had the same material he had. [Council has it now.]
He asked if Council would like to go this direction to approve this motion so Mr. Brett and Mr.
Greiner can-go forward. They will still have to come back with a design, etc.
Mrs. Cinco asked how many lights.
Mr. Brett said 67 total; 37 for the median and 30 will be a shorter version of that for along the bike
path.
Dr. Parker asked if the warranty will be the same whether leased or purchased.
Council President Fixler said-the warranty for C.E.I. is if there is a problem with a bulb, they will
replace it. If we own the system, we are obviously responsible to have the maintenance done. On
the other hand, if the poles need painting, we were told that is an outside situation and they wouldn't
.cover-something like that. He thinks there is enough cushion there to provide for that.- If we went
with the lease versus the payment, they would still offer some maintenance.
Mr. Brett said maintenance costs are shown on the worksheet.
Council Preside'rtf Fixler asked for a roll call.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Authorization Given
