Special Council Meeting
11-9-98
Page 7

Council President Fixler said he has seen fiber optic lighting and it is meant to be decorative and
does not light up the pool at all.
Mr. Marquardt said that is the issue--at first they thought they might be able to use it for that but
it turned out different.
Mayor Rinker said if you are defining the shape of the pool and the swim area, it is a safety
enhancement as much as it is decorative. He could see that being in place and then it would be
an easier decision later on. For reducing shadow, he thinks lighting within the pool itself would
be more prudent than not.
It was the consensus of Council not to accept Alternate 8, the fiber optic lighting.
Alternate 8 will not be accepted.
^ Alternate 9 -Masonry Columnade in front of bathhouse
Mayor Rinker said it will act as a formal entry--a place to meet. It has both an aesthetic and
practical application.
It was the consensus of Council to accept Alternate 9.
Alternate 9 will be accepted.
^ Alternate 10 -Pergola Connecting Bathhouse to Pavilion.
Mayor Rinker said the pool is a hub. It provides a shaded area.
It was the consensus of Council to accept Alternate 10.
Alternate 10 will be accepted.
Note: At this point, Mayor Rinker asked if there were any questions. Since the discussion that
ensued resulted in a second vote on the roof, I included this discussion with Alternate 4.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None
Motion Carried
Ordinance Enacted
First Reading of Ordinance No. 98-41, entitled; "An emergency ordinance authorizing and
directing the Mayor to enter into a contract with Astro Pool for pool work for the Village pool
project."
