Regular Council Meeting
12-13-99
Page 26
would be unpopular with somebody. I want to thank everyone for their diligence in this. Have a
nice holiday.
Mayor Rinker said I am very disappointed because I think intellectually you are short-changing
your Village. I think you put the cart before the horse unnecessarily. I don't think that any of the
issues that have been raised would have been invoked for those who voted as they did. I think
they were appropriate as far as they went. As your Mayor, I am trying to challenge you to be
more creative and to be more attuned to how we can be successful. I feel the vote of Council
tonight reflects taking too much of a dim view unnecessarily. I think we have demonstrated time
and again, and that is frankly what mystifies me. I don't understand it. I don't understand why
that effort to continue looking at this--why you are short-changing it. I am telling you, I think in
the long run, the way that you are voting is--the goals that you are trying to achieve and the goals
I am trying to achieve, I believe are one and the same. I think that what you are doing is you are
precluding the ability to reach them unnecessarily.
Mrs. Cinco congratulated the Garden Club on how nice the Gazebo looks and extended happy
holiday wishes.
Mr. Busa said thanks for all your patience and happy holidays.
Dr. Parker said he would like to commend Mayor Rinker for his dedication to the community. I
feel strongly that most of the wonderful things that happen in this community are a result of
Mayor Rinker's hard work and efforts. It does not go unnoticed. I would hope that we could all
look beyond this meeting and this vote. We have all done a lot of soul searching on this issue
and it is apparent that we all want what we believe is the best for this community. I feel confident
now that we have voted and the final vote has been cast that we will come together to complete
this project in. the best manner possible within the framework that was set. That is how we have
to set our goals. We have to do the best with the decision that was made and come together on it
so it will be the best it can be.
Mr. Metzung thanked everyone for allowing him to move forward on that sewer project. We've
had a couple of rains since then and have received no complaints. He thinks we've accomplished
what we've set out to do.
Mr. Ilacqua said thanks to Donna and the other ladies in the office that sent me a get well card.
I'd also like to thank the Mayor and Council for the very nice fruit basket. Unfortunately, I will
be in the sling for another month or so. I had major reconstructive surgery of my right shoulder
and may need more.
Mr. Buckholtz said I want to respond, and it is just with the most positivity, but I want to liken it
to when there was a sewer project, I don't remember if it was the Wilson Mills, it wasn't ours, but
where they told us they had to put in the sewers and everybody said when do we get our sewers.
And we said as long as we are digging it up, why can't we do the storms at the same time and it
was explained how it just can't be that way. You have go to do one and then you have got to go
