Regular Council Meeting
12-13-99
Page 4
Council President Marquardt said we will respond to all these at one time.
Patricia Sergeant, 6717 Metro Park Drive, I recently moved to this Village because I thought it
was going to remain a Village. I was really disappointed with Progressive's lighted landing strip.
I have lived close to this area and have come through 91 for years. I was always impressed by
the Village look. Now, I see a landing strip. Pretty soon, it is going to be like Willoughby Hills
with a freeway through it. When I first heard of this, my first thoughts were what about the
people that live on S.O.M. Center. I don't live on S.O.M. Center; it really isn't going to impact
me so much. But, I would be furious if I did and I really feel for the people. I think we ought to
consider a lot of things to retain the Village look.
Barb Abate, 545 S.O.M. Center, said I would like to know what side of the road you are
widening. I got literature at one point from someone here saying that they were only taking land
on the west side of the street. Now, there is a proposal that it is coming on my side, in front of
my house. Three neighbors here will have less than 50'. They'll have less than 30' in front of
theirs to their house. I'll have less than 50'. I would just like to know what side of the street this
road is coming on. Nobody here seems to be clear. Are we going on the west. I heard we don't
want to zig zag it. But if you are going west and just by our three houses going east, it seems
like there is going to be a snake effect. Could somebody answer that question.
Mrs. Shields, 6677 Wildwood Trail, corner of 91 and Highland, said at the worst case, we will
have 29' between our house and we are not sure what--either the road, the bike path, the right-of-
way, something. We know we are moving most of our side landscaping. We moved here .
because it was a Village. We liked the fields, we like the rabbits running around, we don't want
a boulevard going down the center of our Village. We like the open fields, which of course as
time goes on, will change. That is progress. But, we have said over and over, of course we
realize the road will have to be widened eventually. But to 6 lanes so we have a beautiful
boulevard and lose all of our rural feeling and as my husband said, everyone was very nice to
come over and look at the impact of what was going to happen to our home when this goes
through. We have been extremely upset. We have loved living here. We are very, very angry at
this point. Patsy, when you came over, one of the things you said was this is not Progressive
driven (widening the street), but a few sentences later you said, we have to have 61anes,
Progressive has to have 2 lanes turning left into their complex. The residents don't want 6 lanes
(at least everyone I've talked to.) Four lanes, S lanes, may be fine; but not 61anes and not a
boulevard going down our street--just in that one section to accommodate Progressive.
Irene Lazzaro, said my husband spoke a few minutes ago. After living in a place for 43-44 years
and to have everything taken away from you. I just don't understand it. I don't understand how
you can.do this to people who have fallen in love with--this is why we moved here--we lived in
Euclid for about 10 years and we couldn't wait to move out here because we loved it so. It still
has been beautiful up until now. But what do they want to do- just tear this whole thing apart? I
can understand this lady's feelings and a few others that I have heard. I think they are in
agreement. They should not be allowed to progress this fast.
