?-1
?
Council President Spellman stated that the majority has spoken and asked
Mr. Toth not to consider this an insult, to consider this as a part of
po.litics and that some people may proclaim no personalities, but personalities
must domineer in politics or most people would not be in politics.
Mr. Carmen stated this was clearly a dispersion on Mr. Toth's character.
Mr. Toth stated he did not apply for the.job, the Mayor of his City wrote
a letter of recommendation for him, he had no intention of going into
another .City at this time. When it occurred to him to have this opportunity
in another community and to expand at what he does best, he thought he
would take the opportunity and go along with it. He said he appreciates
Councils time and it wasn't a waste of his time because you do learn by
each thing that you step into.. Mr. Toth stated, "So I would like to thank
you for the.consideration of the appointment and hopefully down the road,
maybe, we'll see.how things go. Remember it is a two way street, Mr.
Spellman."
Council President Spellma.n stated that Mr. Beebe just told him he has one
or two more comments to make.
Mayor Beebe stated, "Under Parliamentary procedures, this is Mayor Beebe
speaking. I liave listened carefully tonight and I want you reporters to
take note of what I am going to say. It isn't often that I say what I am
going to say. And I want this recorded in the minutes if you will please,
Donna. I have listened carefully tonight and I have listened carefully
over the past couple of months - going back to the first of the year.
This house has been ruled with politics and I.'m through with it. I am
tired of the political roles. I have been involved in .this town since
1965 and on the past three occasions the Villagers in this good town have
elected me Mayor, in succession, on three four-year terms. To them I
publicly apologize because as of the end of this.month, based on the way
the politics are going on in this town I wiil have no part of. it. At the
end of this month it is good-bye. I'm sorry. To those good Council people
that have worked.with me, not.have agreed with me, but worked with me,
I appreciate it. Bu.t we have reached the end. The politics in this town
are beginning to stink. I'm ashamed to be a part of the group, I'll tell
you that. And I'm not talking.about every Council person here. I could
have told you tonight how.the votes would have come out because I knew in
advance through the grapevine. In fact - I had an employee tell me today
that Mrs.. Ruggles told them how the vote would come out tonight as far as
Mr., Toth was concerned. Isn't that pretty though? Now.isn'.t that what
this town needs? We've heard that from a neighboring community.' So I
am going to take two more weeks to untangl.e the things.that I have tried
to do for this town, including taking some pic.tures down and leaving a
few that the people have said they liked. I'm sure somebody else will
pick up tlie Voice of the Village and probably do a far better job than
I have. I have tried to keep all the residents posted. The comment
tonight that really triggered this is when our fond Council President
