109 <br />Regular Council Meeting <br />9/26/88 <br />Page 3 <br />time. He said that not quite as many people attended Village Days this year <br />as last year. Mayor Carmen said he thought the lower attendance was because <br />the date was moved. He said he thinks we will move it back to August -next <br />year. He extended special thanks to Sandy and Marie Basile, Art and Terry <br />Santoro, Gus Amendola and the Service crew, Chief Mohr and Chief Stevens. <br />Mayor Carmen said that representatives were present this evening who will talk <br />about the "Saved by the Belt Program" which is an Ohio Department of Highway <br />Safety Program. He turned the floor over to Chief Stevens. <br />Chief Stevens said that the "Saved by the Belt Program" was instituted to <br />promote:public awareness: It provides recognition to persons who have avoided <br />serious injury or death by wearing their seat belts when involved in an <br />accident. <br />Sgt. Jay said that the'Cwo people who were`invoTved iri an accident were here <br />to talk about it tonight. He explained the sequence of events which they <br />have dete'rmined that caused the accident. He said that when the officers <br />arrived on the scene to investigate the accident that one car was laying on <br />its side and that the driver had gotten out of the car and was standing beside <br />it. He said that tonight they would like to present the two drivers with the <br />award because they were wearing their belts and undoubtedly saved themselves <br />from serious injury or worse. <br />Chief Stevens acknowledged the two investigating officers (in the audience) <br />whose reports nominate these gentlemen for this award--Ptl. Doug Sullivan and <br />Ptl. Bill Annandono. He presented Dr. Robert Curran and Mr. Arno Kremer with <br />the award. Mr. Kremer thanked'the police and fire departments for their quick response <br />and their concern. He expressed thanks for recogniziug this and said he was <br />glad to be a part of the program: - <br />Dr. Curran said that the police and ambulance service were very prompt; they <br />were there almost before he got out of the car. He said' they were very <br />courteous, helpful, and concerned throughout the whole thing, <br />COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BASILE <br />Mr. Basile had no comment. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS <br />Chief Mohr reported that the Fire Department will be done checking hydrants on <br />Friday: He said tliat 15 hydrants have been found to be out of service and <br />have been reported to the Cleveland Water Department. <br />STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS Architectural Review Board - Mr. Amendola said that since the last report, the <br />Board has approved 3 single-family dwellings, 5 room additions, and 3 decks. <br />Board of Appeals - Mr. Amendola said there was no requirement for a meeting in <br />September.
