sL ° ?
?
Regular Council Meeting
10/17/88
Page 7
Mr. Heller said that they have not made a presentation to the
Planning Commission because he understood that they must have
approval on the height variance before they make a submission for
the site approval.
Norton Rose, Vice Chairman of the Progressive Corporation - said that
the issue of the fire truck arose with variances which they are not
seeking now and in connection with the Worton Park issue which they
are no longer seeking. He said this was suggested as a possible
attempt on their part to satisfy the fire issue possibility that
would arise with a significantly different building than that which
is now constructed and that which is now attempting to meet your
various requirements including a 5' variance if we can reach
agreement on that. Mr. Rose said that in looking at some numbers if
they go forward with the kind of process they are talking about and
build on that property, it would appear that they would be talking
about increased taxes at the start of some $225,000 and approximately
$550,000 in one element of real estate taxes exclusive of the County
taxes of which $445,000 would go to schools. He said with those
kinds of increases in taxes he thinks that the fire truck issue is
moot in view of the fact that the same fire truck requirement that
was originally raised would no longer be an issue. He said that he
did not want there to be any misunderstanding regarding this. Mr.
Rose said that they are very anxious to go forward and that they
think they can meet the Village's requirements and are anxious to do
that.
Mr. Heller said he could review the plan if anyone wished.
Mrs. Mills said that Mr. Heller did a good presentation when he was
at Caucus.
Mr. Ramos said that Progressive was originally scheduled to be front
of P&Z, however, we have instructed Mr. Schulte to let Council act on
this variance first because that would have an effect as far as
coming before P&Z. He said that Progressive was instructed to come
to Council first to get some direction on the variance and then go to
P&Z.
Mr. Basile said that what Council will be voting on tonight is
whether or not we will be giving them a 5' variance. He asked if any
member of Council had any questions or needed further information
before voting. ,
Council did not have any questions.
Mr. Flynn requested a resolution of a variance in title only be taken
up now. Mrs. Mills seconded.
Mr. Santoro said.that he would, like to have Chief Mohr's comments.
Chief Mohr said that with the comments that the gentleman from
Progressive made regarding the tax dollars coming into the Village,
we would not need them to buy us a fire truck. Eventually, we would
be able to buy what we want with no strings attached.
