136
9/29/86
Page 6 _
Mr. Feneli said regarding what Mr. Klang had mentioned that this
building was out of the ordinary and Mr. Amendola should have
been tipped off by that, this is not out of the ordinary in the
sense that it"s never been done before. There are three or four
other buildings of this size in the Village. Mr. Feneli said
that anybody with a lot of this size, could have built that size
structure until September 18 of this yeare It was a typical
application for a building permit since it fell within the code.
Mayor Carmen said that this was the way it was done in the past,
that bui lding permits were issued without the A.R.B. seeing the
final plans. We are now taking a closer view of that process,
and intend to revise our procedures.
Mr. Feneli said Mr. Klang had asked, "What is this man trying to
hide?" Mr. Feneli said he feels that Mayfield Village has a
Building Commissioner that shows up for work at 6:30 a.m. and
stays late at night if he has to. The Architectural Review
Board are professionals who all have full-time jobs, and are not
paid by the Village for their services. Mr. Amendola is trying
to.run bui, lding in the town and-style-wise and construction-
wise, Mayfi.eld Vil.lage is near the top of the County, which Mr. ?
Feneli feels is a direct result to Mr. Amendola.
Comments from the audience were made that this is irrelevant.
Mayor Carmen said he does not feel what Mr. Feneli was saying
was.irrelevant given the nature of Mr. Klang"s comment. If you
think that the Building Commissioner made a mistake, he does not
feel anyone will disagree with that. However, if you are trying
to apply bad motives to the Building Commissioner by saying that
he was trying to hide something, he thinks that he will rightly
take offense; Mr. Feneli took offense and Mayor Carmen said he
takes offense too. Mayor Carmen said Mr. Amendola is a hard-
working man who has done nothing throughout the last number of
years but try to make Mayfield Village a good place to live. So
when you try to apply bad motives to someone, then I have a
problem. When you say a mistake was made, then I can agree with
you.
Mr. Klang said we were all told that this went in front of the
Board, and it was approved. He said that is totally untrue;
that was a lie. Why were we told this?
Mayor Carmen said Mr. Amendola erred in judgement. There is no
question that there is an error in judgement here. Mr. Amendola
did not intend to mislead anyone. He said that Mr. Feneli has
just explained the procedure that we have had over the number of
years that Mr. Amendola has been doing this. Mr. Amendola
