12/15/86
186 Page Ten
Discussion was held_regarding the use of the home by other Community groups.
Mayor Carmen said he felt the Vi'l.:Lage wou'ld be more willing to contribute
to tYie upkeep of the home and property if the other groups (i.e. Garden
Club, Commission on Aging) would be using i:t a'lso. Mayor Carmen asked Mr.
and N`rs. Plastine whet.her or not they were planning to a'11ow the other groups
to.use the building.
Mr. Pla.stine said.they would be very restricted. He exp'lained the Historica'1
Society is a township which inc'ludes Mayfield Vi'1'lage, Mayfield Heights,
High'land Heights, and Gates Mi1'ls. If they permitted Mayfie:Ld Vi'1'lage groups
to use the'bui'lding, they wou'ld have to permit grougs from the other
communities to use it also.
Discussio.n was held regarding:a government use of the bui'lding.
Mr. P'lastine said.the Historica'l.Society is chartered with the State of Ohio.
Mayor Carmen said he received copies of letters from Mayf ie:Ld Heights an.d -
High'land Heights indicatin:g they are wi'lling to financia'l:Ly support, to some
ey-tent, the project. (Mayfield Heights agreed to fi:nance $2,500.)
Mr. P'lastine said the communities wi'1'1 include their commitment in ordinance
form at a later time. Mr. Myers asked if a variance wou'ld be required for the setback of his building:
on that proximity to the right-of-way line. .
Mr. Feneli said in his opinion the setback would require a variance. The code
requires a 50-foot setback and the plans show.a 23-foot setback.
Mr. Feneli said regarding the parking variance, the request for the 14 space
variance was tied to the percentage of use of the retai'1 space in the building.
A man in tlie audience asked what was p'lanned for the green portion that is by
S anda'lwo o d .
Mr. Myers said nothing is planned for that area, it is residential.
Mr. Wenger_(in the audience) commented that everything he has heard this
evening i.s "iffy"-and the area could end up looking.like Mayfie'ld Road.
Mayor Carmen said the: estimate to move the house was approximate'ly $80,000
and aske&.if the Historica:L Society was in any position to generate $80,000
in the n.e2.r future to make the move.
Mrs. P'lastine explajne? they p'lan to send letters. t,o the area.businessmen
requesting donations as soon as they know they have the house and the land.'
They are also eligib:Le for four foundation breaks to he:Lp them in this.
Mayor Carmen said an aiternate parcel to p'lace the home has.been offered by
Reverand Taylor of St. Bartholomew Church.
