120
iZegular Council Meeting
7/16/90
Page 5
Mr. Skidmore asked if the rumors were about this particular program or others.
Mr. Pietrafese said they mentioned our program.
Mr. Skidmore said he is here to tell everyone that is absolutely not true. They have talcen every
yard of paper to Malese Paper in Wickliffe. He would be happy to show the Cirizen's Technical
Advisory Committee the receipts if Council wishes. They will now be taking their products to
Packaging Corporation of America because of the volume. Mr. Skidmore said there is no truth
about that statement in Mayfield Village or in any other community that he is involved with
curbside recycling.
Mr. Patrick said the Village has received compensation from Waste Management based on the
reduction of tonnage taken to the landfill.
1VIr. Rinker asked if there was anything the residents should or should not be doing.
Mr. Skidmore said that some people are putting their newspapers in plastic bags and including
telephone books. They cannot accept telephone books and prefer not to have the newspapers in
plastic bags.
Waste Management will prepare an article including "do's and don'ts" for the Voice of the Village.
Mayor Carmen asked if they were making any effort to expand the program.
Mr. Skidmore said they hope to begin accepting detergent bottles soon. They do not have an
answer on the tin-coated cans yet. He showed Council a new container which will be used to
collect office paper. They will be delivering 20 containers to the Village Hall tomorrow and will
give Donna information about the office paper program.
Eagle International regarding Res. 90-45 (aftted 6/27/90) - Mr. Tom Warren, President of Eagle
International and Mr. John Duger, Sa1es 1Vlanager were present.
Mr. Warren asked Council to reconsider Resolution No. 90-45 awarding a contract to Lake Truck
for a truck chassis, dump body, salt spreader, snow plow, and optional equipment. He said their
fum submitted a bid that was $6001ess than the bid awarded to Lake Truck Sales. Mr. Warren
said he thinks there may have been a misunderstanding. He thinks the contract was awarded to
Lake Truck because it would be easier to get to their location for service. He said they have two
dealerships; one on Brookpark Road in Cleveland--which would be easier to get to than to Lake
Truck in Painesville, and one in Akron which would not be easier to get to. Mr. Warren asked
Council to reconsider their decision.
Mr. Ramos said he had advised Mr. Warren that it was his recollection that Council awarded the
bid to Lake Truck because the Village has been satisfied with Lake Truck's service in the past and
because of their close proximity. He said he did not have a copy of the minutes available when he
talked to Mr. Warren. He said the gentlemen agreed that the municipality has the choice of taking
not only the lowest but the best bid. Mr. Ramos said it is up to Council what they want to do. He
asked if they would ever have to take the truck to Akron for service.
