185
Regular Council Meeting
10/16/89
Page 9
ANY OTHER MATTER THAT MAY COME BEFORE COUNCIL
Mrs. Cinco said she had a phone call from a resident on Wilson Mills
about leaf pick-up. She said there were a lot of senior citizens on
that street who would like more assistance with leaves than just
receiving bags.
Mayor Carmen explained that the Village does not have enough manpower
to pick up leaves on Wilson Mills. Residents cannot put the leaves
close enough to the street for them to be picked up as they are on
other streets. To pick up the leaves on Wilson Mills would require
additional personnel to rake the leaves into the machine. The Village
does not have $160,000-180,000 equipment like the larger communities
and cannot afford the more expensive equipment.
A resident in the audience stated that it seems the Village was
involved in making the tree lawns on the south side narrower than on
the north side and he thinks the Village owes them something.
Mayor Carmen said the leaf collection program was instituted to help as
many Villagers as possible. He said he understands the residents
problem and sympathizes with him but that we are doing the best we can
with the program.
The resident commented that the major problem is with the snow and
asked who decided which side would be smaller.
Mr. Amendola said the Village will furnish residents with bags for the
bagging of leaves on that portion of Wilson Mills Road. They will be
dropped off this week. He said that residents should contact the
Service Department if they need additional bags.
Mr. Rinker said that a meeting to discuss the ballot issues has been
tentatively scheduled by the Worton Park Home Owners Association for
November 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room. The meeting.is open to
all Villagers.
Mr. Flynn complimented Mr. Patrick on the long-term comprehensives.
Mr. Amendola asked Council to give consideration about letting him know
the answer regarding the Assistant Service Director situation by
November 4.
Mr. Flynn said he thinks the legislation will be coming up for the
third reading at the next meeting and that he does not think we could
give any kind of an answer until it is considered again at a regular
meeting.
Mayor Carmen said that Mr. Amendola goes on vacation in November. He
is interested in this issue since he is the department head. Mayor
Carmen said he feels that Council has either already formed their
opinions on this issue or if they are going to require input they
should make their requests now so he can respond to those requests
before he leaves.
