=1l?io.
Regular Council Meeting
11/20/89
Page 9
firefighter that started yesterday. Mayor Carmen said it will be
included in the Uudget for next year. He said that this item should be
discussed with the Chief at Caucus, or better yet with the Safety and
Service Committee so they can determine the differential in pay.
Confirmation of Police Lieutenant - Mayor Carmen said he would like
Council to approve the appointment of Jack Jay as Police Lieutenant.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Basile, made a motion to confirm the
Mayor's appointment of Jack Jay as Police Lieutenant.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Appointment Confirmed
Overhead Sign at Beta Drive - Lieutenant Jay said that normal sign
shops do not make that type of sign so he is looking at other avenues.
It would have to be installed by someone with a cherry picker like
Traffic Control Products who could get into the intersection.
Right-of-Entry -Residents Merkle and Pierce - Mr. Ramos said that Mr.
and'Mrs. Pierce do not want to grant the Village a right-of-entry and
Mr. Merkle will not return phone calls or respond to letters. The
contractor has stopped construction because of the weather.
Mr. Hovancsek said he thinks the project is about 50% from completion
and the contractor will be sending a letter about delaying the project
because of the cold weather.
Mayor Carmen said that this project cannot be back-burnered. We want
this thing done this year.
Mr. Rinker said he has heard rumblings that the quality of work on this
project is not of the same caliber as the work on the first phase.
Mr. Hovancsek said this contractor does acceptable work but it is not of the quality of C.I.R.'s work.
Mayor Carmen said that Mr. Hovancsek needs to tell the contractor that
his work is being done in an acceptable fashion but not as well as it
should be done. He should show him how the other work was done and
give him specifics.
Mrs. Cinco asked about replacement of trees.
Mr. Hovancsek said there is no program set up to replace trees but he
sees no problem with not replacing them. He will have another meeting
with him and do what he can.
Grading at Phillips Property - Mr. Hovancsek said he reviewed the area
and checked the grading. It seems to be slightly higher than the
grading approved.
