Z-
?; ?_
Regular Council Meeting
12/18/89
Page 6
Mr. Petrillo said the trees in the area hamper visibility. He would
like to work with Council about the set back and signage.
Mr. Rinker asked why they needed this; if they have some indication
that a sign would improve their business.
Mr. Petrillo said that Speedway is known for its competitive price.
Unless they can competitively show their price they cannot market their
product effectively. They would need a price sign to do so.
Mr. Rinker asked if they have something that shows their business has
suffered due to lack of signage.
Mr. Amendola compared the proposals and presentations they had made.
He said this was not the same proposal considered by the Architectural
Review Board.
Mr. Hovancsek arrived at this time (8:30 p.m.)
Mr. Petrillo said they would like to remove the existing signage on
the building and only install those signs on the canopy and a price
sign underneath the canopy.
Discussion was held about the business. Mr. Petrillo said they offer
self-serve gas and a convenience store which sells snacks and pop etc.
Mr. Amendola suggested that since changes have been made that were not
part of the recommendation the Architectural Review Board considered,
that this go back to the Architectural Review Board for review.
Mr. Rinker said that Council is not trying to restrict his business but
he thinks they must have a compelling reason to grant a variance.
Mr. Basile asked the pleasure of Council.
Mr. Rinker recommended this item be put into Caucus.
Mrs. Mills said she thinks the Architectural Review Board should define
what they can do.
Mr. Petrillo asked if it would be possible to sit in on the next
Council work session.
Mrs. Mills said the next Caucus is January 15.
Mr. Rinker said that Council will try to resolve the issue one way or
another as soon as possible. This item should be placed on the next
Caucus agenda.
Residential Smoke Detectors - Existing Homes - Mr. Ramos said it is
possible. He will be drafing legislation which he hopes to have by
Caucus.
