Special Council Meeting
3/2/92
Page Three
Mr. Rinker said the initial information he had was that it was in consideration of the amount
of time required; it was treated as a full-time job and the $42,000 would reflect a fair
amount of involvement. He does not know where the $8,000 came from other than that
would be a ceiling. Mr. Rinker asked Mr. Flynn and Mayor Pietrafese for comments.
Mr. Flynn said he asked Mr. Diemert to survey other communities. This is the figure they
determined for Mayor/Safety Director. Regarding their position on Council's salary, they
came up with an $8,000 cap. It would be up to Council to decide a lower figure.
Mayor Pietrafese said he wants to thank Mr. Flynn for his remarks and introducrion. He
agrees wholeheartedly with the proposed compensation for Council. Mayor Pietrafese said
he is not fully aware of all the duties and responsibilities which come with this office but it
is not a three-hour per week responsibility. He hopes to find some time to put a complete
package together to save money for the Village. Mayor Pietrafese said he would prefer not
to have the resolution pertaining to the Mayor's compensation voted on this evening, and
asked that the resolution be withdrawn at this time.
Mr. Flynn said he does not think anyone on Council has to apologize for the amount of
time they put in and he thinks the concept is that this is a volunteer job; he feels this is a
justified issue.
Mr. Rinker said he thinks they all know very clearly the amount of time that Mayor
Pietrafese has put into this job. He thinks they owe it to the voters to get their facts and
figures together and come back; they do not want to give the appearance that this is being
rushed into.
Mr. Ferrante said anyone who gces into a new position will have to spend a lot of time to
get themselves indoctrinated. They must learn the job first. After they learn the job, then
they can figure out how many hours they should work.
Mr. Basile, seconded by Mr. Fixler, made a motion to table Resolution No. 92-12.
ROLL CALL: AYES: Mr. Basile, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Fenante, Mr. Fixler,
and Mr. Rinker
NAYS: Mr. Flynn
Motion Carried
Resolution Tabled
Mr. Busa said he requested his name be removed from the legislation.
Mr. Fixler agreed.
Mr. Diemert said to note that Vince Busa and Mazk Fixler want their names withdrawn.
Mr. Basile, seconded by Mr. Ferrante, made a motion to table Resolurion No. 92-13.
Mr. Busa and Mr. Fixler's narnes should be removed as introducing Resolution No.
92-18.
