Regular Council Meeting
3-17-97
Page 10
Mrs. Cinco said they have spoken about this only casually with Councii at this time. Our
resolution to purchase the golf caurse is only on second reading. She can't offer any hope of
acting quickly and can't make any commitments to that property until after the first of the year.
Mr. Marquardt said he lked the presentation on it and does not think they are ruling out an3rthing
on that northwest quadrant. Tirning right now is that they don't own the property and he does
not believe that wi11 be completed until sometime next year. Now, we are tryilg to coIleet al1 of
the proposaLs that people make and haw the pieces fit in. From his perspective, he liked getting
the proposal but does not think they are ready to make a decision yet.
The gentlem,an in the audience said he understands they are a little early on this. If he were to go
back to them and say he had a favorable reception but understands he can't provide any
cammitment and that the chances are relativelq good when the Council is able to make the
decision tha,t they will vote in your favor, he thinks there is a good possibiiity the people will wait.
They like the site, the area. T'heir price point for the acquisition of iand is probably abaut a
million dollars. He thinks it would be difficult for Council to find another user that would have as
little impact on the commwuty or the site that wauld be will'uig to pay anywhere close to this
amount of money.
Mrs. Cinco said they are very concerned with the density and with our zoning for density. She
said she does not want to encourage them but she t.hinks they are not ready to act on it at this
point.
Mr. Marquardt said we don't have zoning that covers this.
The gentleman said the people who put these things up around the country have a Iot of
experience on this and they said others were willing to work with the zoning.
M-rs. Cinco reminded everyone that the Viilage has been to the courts abaut 6 times and what is
there is there.
Mr. 1Vlarquardt said any changes in the zoning have to go to the electorate.
Mr. Buckholtz said the financial end of this is very attractive. People will be discussing this.
The gentleman said if they have not found an alternative site by the tune the lots are made
available, they will be back. He wants to make certain everyone understands what assisted living
is. This is not a nursing facility; it is smaller in size. In addition to the housing, a variety of other
services are offered such as cooking, laundry, transportation or rehabiiitation services. To some
extent those things are available on site depending upon the state requirements and regulations for
licensing. He sai.d if Councii would like to see a full presentation,lVlayor Rinker lcriows where to
reach him.
