They
have been moving slowly. They were initially going to pave in two phases but the subcontractor
did not want to have the additional expense of having the equipment come in twice. He believes
the final asphalt will have to be in next week to meet the July 21 deadline. There is a penalty for
being late. (He believes the fine is $100 per day.)
Mayor Rinker asked the number of man hours needed to complete the entire path. He said we
want to be sure the job is done right. He asked if we know what is holding them up now.
Mr. Hovancsek said it is the subcontractor's responsibility to get it in. But, every time they hit a
soft spot, they contact the contractor. (This is not usually the case, but the subcontractor must
have negotiated this agreement with the contractor.)
Mayor Rinker asked if there is any other subgrade area that could be identified.
Mr. Hovancsek said a section on the north end wasn't done. Mr. Hovancsek said he will
personally contact the contractor and subcontractor.
Mayor Ruilcer said we will hear if this is done in a sloppy way.
Council President Fixler asked why there was a lack of work on the project in the last week. He
thinks we should call the general contractor-it is a tremendous inconvenience and a safety
hazaxd. He has seen a lot of people on bikes and skateboards using the street since there is no
bike path.
1`Ioise Barriers for I-271 (Public Meetang Scheduled) - Mayor Rinker said a meeting will be
held Wednesday night from 4-8 p.m. at Mayfield Heights Community Room. It is an open house.
We will have representatives on hand and we should try to frame some good questions. We will
be asking about adding planting in the right-of-way.
Council President Fixler said he saw a structure like the one proposed on I-70 east going toward
Wheeling. Aesthetically, it is one of the better ones he has seen. He thinks it will be attractive to
the residents.
