Regular Council Meeting
11-17-97
Page 5
Mr. Marquardt asked if dust control has been addressed.
Mr. Sheehy said they do not anticipate a problem with dust. The hauling will occur over the next
5-6 weeks. Everything is wet now. Should it become a problem, there are methods they would
use to control the dust. They will put some calcium chloride down to keep dust to a minimum.
That will be one of the comments the Village Engineer will have on the plans. The pond is an
ornamental type pond. They will protect it from any type of runoff from the stockpile.
Mr. Buckholtz questioned their plans during the year.
Mr. Sheehy said they would like to use this material on the site to fill some low spots. They
would like the flexubility of having the ma.terial there and available to them.
Mr. Ferrante asked what would happen if they could not stockpile the dirt.
Mr. Sheehy said they would ha.ve to haul it off the site.
Another representative from Progressive, in the _audience, said the dirt will only be there for one
year or less.
Mr. Hovancsek said the soil that is there will be relatively contaminated. It is a mix of topsoil and
embankment material. Soils mixed with organics, as determined by a testing lab, cannot be used
for embankments or to build roads or parking lots. The soil can be used in other areas around the
building such as tree lawn areas. He clarified it is not contaminated environmentally. It is not just
clean cla.y; it is contaminated with topsoil and is co-mingled. He does not want the material to be
used as a.base for pavement because the freeze-thaw cycle will cause it to expand and break up.
It is coming from a pile of topsoil on Alpha. Drive.
Mr. Busa questioned how unsightly the stockpile will be. Many retired people live in the area.
Seeing the dying golf course is bad, but seeing an obstruction or monstrosity will be even more
distasteful.
Mr. Sheehy said it will be positioned about 800' from the roadway. It will not be something like a
monstrosity you would see driving by the golf course. It will be tall when you aze right up against
it. Seeing it from 800' away, it won't look as large. They will seed it and put grass over it so it
does not erode and so it will appear green in the spring.
Mr. Busa said the material is coming from another city. He asked why Mayfield Village is being
used as a dumping ground.
Mr. Sheehy said it is part of an overall site pla.n-that they will need material. Progressive will be
in need of the ma.terial to build up the site. They can either use this material or they will be
hauling material in from somewhere.
